Cultural is close enough to "ethnic," right?
So you would be living with the people who were renting? I would be discriminating too if that were the case... either as the renter or the one renting.

Absolutely!!

Does anyone really move to North Dakota hoping to experience diversity?

It seems you either move here to work or because LSS imported you here to leach off the system. I know that's not the PC answer, but its what a lot of long time residents of ND tell me.

Lutheran Social Services. They make money from immigration. While there is poverty all across the US, they feel it necessary to "save the world" and bring in more immigrants (like we don't have enough immigration problems already).

It's not politically correct to be negative against their "mission", but I for one wish they would direct their efforts to help those already here that are in need.

Oh. Yeah, I agree -- better to help those already here than to expand the problem.

LSS is online....check for yourself. It is among many agencies that offer services to those from other countries that have been allowed to immigrate to the U.S. by the U.S., at least in N.D. There are private non-profit charity based agencies as well as public taxed based agencies that help all residents of the U.S.

I think the Eastern half of N.D. is very diverse, especially compared to the Western half....that primarily because of the large Universities in Fargo and Grand Forks.

I see folks from many cultures shopping, walking and bike riding and jogging, at least in the college towns.

Live in Appalachia. Know a lot of people around here that would love to be relocated so they actually stand a chance of having a decent future, especially for their children.

I have been hearing this as long as I can remember... maybe even longer. What is keeping people from leaving?

I think that the reason people ask questions like this is that they fear that if they're the "only black" in an area will people there treat them as if they are likely to BRING the crime, violence, and thug lifestyle with them. They fear being followed around in stores, stopped by the police whenever they drive, etc, because of the stereotypes of people with the same skin colour in other parts of the country. Some areas of the country -- if they see ONE black person they treat you like "what'd YOU come HERE for, go back where you came from, we don't want YOUR kind here...." sort of thing because of that assumption. It's the lifestyle they assume you'll bring along with you that's what they don't want. Military are usually subtly coerced into staying on the base for safety purposes.
