Kristin Rudrud, the actress who played Jeanne Lundegaard (the murder victim) is a Fargo native and still lives here. However, she laid the accent on very thick and doesn't speak that way at all.

I think it has to do with the Norwegian ancestory.

Love the movie, hence looking at this thread but it's been awhile since I've seen it. Could someone be so kind as to translate the above for a little dummy like me?

Ufta or Ufta Feeda has many uses.

It can be used in place of....oh s**t, this is hard, oh brother, not again.. It's an all around word/phrase.

Thanks Roundball, that's useful to know!
I was actually hoping someone could tell me what the paragraph I highlighted in my post actually referred to.

lol sorry.

Twin Cites- Minneapolis/St. Paul

sorrels- a manufacturer of top of the line winter boots

jumper cables- if you live in the "frozen tundra" it is a must to carry jumper cables in your trunk at all times. The cold weather will kill your car battery and the cables make it possible to jump start your car from a working car. How to Start a Car With Jumper Cables | eHow.com

Goofers- the Golden Gophers. The University of Minnesota mascot. Since it's winter time it is referring to the hockey team. It's one of the best in the nation. They are still owned by the UND Sioux.
p.s. As kid, when the Minnesota hockey team would come into town people would throw dead gophers onto the ice after the Sioux would demolish them. (still happens but not as much .)

Whenever I have talked to anyone on the phone from another state they immediately pick up on the accent and guess Fargo....I guess we say our O's as a long OOOOOO. And I was a transplant from San diego 35 yrs ago. But the movie never used uffdah and that is a standard norwegian saying.
