Default Professional jobs in Bismarck, ND

After searching for over a year, it appears that there really isn't much for jobs in Bismarck for professionals. I have looked at all the job sites and the company sites of companies in Bismarck with no luck.

Is there something I am missing? Any ideas?

It really depends. What type of job are you looking for, exactly?

Accounting jobs, my wife and I are both CPA's. It doesn't seem to matter what type of professional job you are looking for, I think the town is just too small. Its more a blue collar type of town.

I kind of had that issue when looking for IT work coming from Connecticut. it took awhile, but I did find something. Main thing was taking the cut in pay, but, in the end, worked out for the better for sure.

Bismarck definitely was harder to find a job in my field than Fargo.

Its the same for my field, it would be easy to find a job in Fargo compared to Bismarck.

yeah, not sure whats up with that in Bismarck. I know coming out of college in ND those with accounting degrees basically had to leave the state to get a job.

Good luck though, if situation was different for things keeping me in Fargo, I would have loved to been able to live in Bismarck. One heck of a town.

A lil hint for you a lot og places don't advertise their jobs on regular websites. Its not what you know in the smaller cities settings but who you know. I have gotten my last three jobs through friends and family. Either they worked there or knew somebody who did and knew of the opening. For a CPA I think you might be looking in the wrong spot for jobs. Have you tried north Dakota Job service? Unlike most states that I have lived most businesses list jobs there or Bismanonline.com and also a lot of the larger businesses dont advertise these openly but on their company websites. Only if they cannot fill the positions to they resort to advertising these positions.

I kind of thought it was about who you know and not what you know. But its like that in any city! Unfortunately it really is magnified in such a small city such as Bismarck. I have looked at North Dakota Job Serice atleast a hundred times but I had forgotten about Bismaonline.com, thanks! I also look on the big company website like MDU and Basin Electric.

We really would like to move but it doesnt look possible. There flat out are no jobs at all and I see why so many people have to leave.

Maybe start by going to Fargo first, then work your way over to Bismarck?

The State of North Dakota is constantly looking for CPA's. Maybe not right this minute but I see ads all the time for state agencies looking for people with accounting degrees.
