Planning to Move to the Tioga Area
Does anyone have any information about the Tioga, ND Area. My husband and I are planning a move there towards the end of August. I work from home via the internet and he has applied for a position not far from there. Also does anyone know if DSL service is available in Tioga. I am also interested in either renting or buying a small home outside town if possible. We are empty nesters and moving to ND from GA. Yes I know it is cold for people from the south . We love the cold besides we used to be truck drivers and traveled through the area often. What types of housing are available? Also we may be bringing our own travel trailer. Are there places to park a travel trailer? Well anyway, you all know that I am begging for all the information I can get. So help me out if you can please.
Thanks

Hey Windancer,I'm from way North Georgia and bought a house in northern ND myself.I really can't say much about Tioga,it's about 50 miles from our place.Check SRS on the inernet,I think they servise Tioga for phone and net. They service our small town of 150 and we have high speed here.I posted in another section that I have found housing and taxes far cheaper than Georgia and we have had heat and elec on all winter and even found that very reasonable.A nice older couple has checked our house for us every day all winter long so where do you see that ever.We are really looking forward to the move in the next few months. We bought our very small 1 bedroom with garage and out building for less than a good used pickup truck,LOL.Stay in touch, maybe we can all get together after you get up there and boil some peanuts,Take care

Thanks for info
Hi there Alaska315. So glad to hear from you. I apoligize for being away so long. We have been very busy as of late. Thank you so much for the info. I can't wait to get there either. I made a typo when I posted the date of our planned move. It should have stated August 2008 but I left off the year. We plan to leave out by July 31, 08 from GA. By this date all my plans should be complete. Savings, selling of our property here, etc... We are going to really hit the ND job Web site hard about 2-3 months before we leave from here so hopefully we can get straight to work after we get settled in. We are going to be bringing with us a 40 ft travel trailer, unless we trade for a little smaller one. I figure this way if we can't find housing immediately, we can at least be like turtles and carry our shelter with us . We are from extreme North GA too. North West corner. We look forward to meeting you and boiling peanuts. LOL! What part of ND are you relocating in? We plan on Tioga, Ray, Bowbells or somewhere in the NW corner. I have been looking at a lot of towns in the area and talking to a couple of people who live in Ray. People there seem as friendly as Georgians used to. I don't know what happened to Southern hospitality but you just don't see it anymore. I think it moved to ND too. . Please feel free to email us at any time and I will respond. I think everything has settled down a bit for us now finally. Until next time, Blessings to you and yours. Bev and Joel

Hey Bev and Joel,We bought our house in Upham,ND. primarily because of it's small town and friendly folks and proximity to Minot for shopping etc. and your right the people in Georgia just arn't like they used to be,waving at each other and pulling over and stopping for funeral traffic.I figure it's because most are from Florida by way of up North (the east coast up north) or they all came from big cities.Keep the Proximity to stores or employment in mind when getting way out where your looking as there isn't alot over there, but hey,Taxes are cheap,LOL.Since your not moving till next year,Check the Tax Deed sales in November in the counties your interested in.You can get some real buys on a cheap "fixer upper" that way.I have seen many houses sell in the 500 and 600 dollar range.I was from the North East Georgia area around Lake Chatuge. But stay in touch and we'll help ya anyway we can.Looking forward to the COLDDDDD winters myself.

Boiling Peanuts
Hi Alaska 315,
It's been awhile. We are still looking forward to moving to "Nature's Country". We have upped our mving date to approximately Jan or Feb of 2008. I will check out those listings you told me about. I have been keeping an eye out for rent to own or lease properties as well. We are also open to purchase so I am scouring all the sites I can find for the opportunity that we have been waiting for. I know Winter is not the perfect time to travel northward by no means but dear hubby can't wait much longer than that. Please eamil me and we will stay in touch. Looking forward to hearing from you all soon.
WindDancer1958@gmail.com. Y'all have a great Labor Day.
Thanks,
Bev and Joel

Hi, just recently looking at information about my hometown and noticed a post. Not sure of the post date, but i'll try help ya out. DSL service is available in the tioga and surrounding area via NCC Ray telecommunications provider. Google search and you'll find anything you need on their website.
Renting and buying houses is tough from what i understand hearing from my parents but new buildings are on their way because of an increase of interest in people moving because of the number of jobs available in the area from oil production and drilling.
The Tioga Park District is just one place to name that has hook ups for a 5th wheel camper to other types of lodging. I know there area last two more parks of that sort.
Any questions, just repost.

A nice place close to Tioga is along Lake Sakakawea to the south of Tioga. Red Mike, Long Creek, Keys cove area. Close enough to Tioga-Ray-Williston...but along the shores of the lake. (hopefully they will get some good run off and fill the lake again)...but just a very nice area. Many people live in these little summertime communities year round.

I know of a 2 bedroom house in Tioga that is available for rent or purchase, with room to park a travel trailer in the yard. If anyone would like more information, they can email me at prairieviolin@aol.com. I hope that this information helps someone!
