Blue Sky...did you get any finches yet?
I forgot to post back that the neighbor had had Goldfinches for several days before my last post.
The next day I put up finch/thistle and sunflower feeders at our Guest Inn and the little buggers found them within a couple hours. They're totally ignoring my feeders here at home, tho I can't keep up filling these (at home) all fall & winter.

My house finches are soo dang messy. When they go through the sunflower feeder 80% of what winds up on the ground is untouched seed. Here I thought I would fool them and sweep it off my balcony and put it back in the feeders. Suckers got me figured out and are now ignoring that particular feeder. lol.

Wonderful!
My neighbor and I are battling over the Golden Finches...haha...he just put out a seed sock. So I'm going to go find the biggest seed sock money can buy! LOL Now they eat at his place and come drink water at mine...I guess my feeder isn't convenient enough for the little boogers.

LOL!!!
I got a finch feeder @ Fleet Farm and it has 4 socks fastened to the top. You take off the lid & pour in $$$ and (oops! mean't thistle seed!) it flows into all 4 socks at once.
Seriously, the little buggers can go thru $30 on just a few days, but it's pretty cool watching 25-35 birds all eatting at once. You can almost watch the seed level go down minute by minute!
Glad you're enjoying them. I only have a few pair left around, as well as a few house finches, siskens & red-polls, as well as an occasional chickadee and nuthatch....the latter 2 much prefer sunflower seeds.
Have you ever put out a dish w/grape jelly? Orioles love it! Now I'm getting a jar nearly every time I go to the grocery store!

HAHA! I seriously thought I might be the only person who felt this way!
I haven't tried the grape jelly... might have to do that soon.
Has anyone found any seeds for these little buggers that doesn't leave such a mess? I live on the ground floor in an apartment and my feeders hang half over my balcony half over the rock bed...and I am just waiting to get into trouble about the mess this leaves..although I sweep it up daily. I have been looking for strictly sunflower seed hearts but havent found them. Spendy??

They are year round, certain times of the year they do not feed at feeders, because of the abundance of fresh food.
