I called up AT&T Wireless to discuss this. They couldn't give me any info on the acquisition of Verizon assets, obviously. They said that since AT&T doesn't provide coverage, you will get roaming on a partner's network. If you use too much of it you will get dropped.
The rep told me that they would contact you if that were to be the case. You will also have the option to cancel your contract without a termination fee. The news sites say the acquisition should be completed by end of the fourth quarter and after a $400 million investment, those towers and the network should be AT&T compliant by he middle of next year.
That is inconvenient for me. I just switched back to AT&T in December or November, if I get another carrier then I will just have to switch back to AT&T again when they become the only carrier in the region next year. Oh well.
