I've never lived in ND, but grew up in a small town in South Dakota, with a population of about 300. I moved out, and am now living in Sioux Falls with a population of around 150,000. (ahhh the city life! )

North Dakota is a great state with friendly people, scenic areas, and a rich history.

In a small town, everyone knows each other. This can be a pro or a con.

Pros: Low, almost non-existent crime; good schools (except small schools tend to put a huge emphasis on sports from my experiences); no traffic; low cost of living.

Cons: Things like gas, groceries, etc may be a far away; Lower wages; cell phone service could be limited; lack of entertainment, unless you drive to the nearest "city".

More pros:
No fire ants
No Waterbug cockroaches
No yearly cycle of Hurricanes
Summers not so hot that you have to stay indoors where it is airconditioned

Cons:
Often windy
Winter cold weather is a long time (its not the severity of winter, its the length of winter that's so bad)

*cons dont seem too bad.

~entertainment i dont need. i lived in chicago and have been to navy pier once and only downtown to go to school. a lot of my friends are always downtown, shopping, looking, eating, anything like every weekend.

~winters i can live with if they arent severe.

~im from chicago is wind isnt a problem.

~low wages i can deal with if the cost of living is down.

*pros seem good.

~two less bug to worry about. i recently stood in a huge fire ant anthill by my moms and had them crawling all over me.

~i cant extremely hot summers.

~good schools is awesome

~low crime is a huge plus

~low traffic is a good thing

thanks guys.

Winters are the worst part of ND and the fact that Eastern ND is so boring. The land is flat as a pancake and there is absolutely no scenery, unless you like looking at miles of boring farm land. Like I mentioned the winters are the worst part. Below zero for most of January and February with strong cold winds that make it even worse. Throw in some snow and you have a nice blizzard!! Also if you like driving on a couple inches of ice throughout the whole winter, ND is perfect for you!!

As for some good stuff...The summers are fairly nice...hot, but nice. UND is a great school and Sioux hockey is always enjoying. The people are fairly nice.

I'm a city boy who went to UND for college and can't wait to get out of this state. It's not for everyone. It was a great experience but my time in ND is almost up.
