Ummm, I believe that's the draw of living in a place such as North Dakota. You are away from all of that kind of crap. I am so very envious. Someday.

What the poster you quoted said sounds a lot like the neighborhood I grew up in and where my parents still live in Fargo. The mall is 7 or 8 minutes away. A beach, well lakes country is 45 minutes away. A big big city, Minneapolis is a 3.5 hours away, which in my view is perfect.

I love that everything seems so clean, and North Dakotans display great humor in unexpected ways.

I stumbled on this thread out of sheer curiosity. I can understand why folks would like North Dakota. The desire for quiet and dark skies. That is one of the reasons I want to retire to New Mexico. There will be miles and miles of nothing but miles and miles and the winters will be warmer than either NH or N Dakota. Mostly there will be dark skies. I like dark skies.

That's one of the reasons I'm retiring to ND. To get away from that crap.

As for what I love about ND, I would have to say the people and having four seasons.

I live in the capital city of North Dakota which is also the second largest and I don't need a mall or a beach to live my life. The beach is for vacations and the mall is for the kids to hang out at. Big, big cities are overrated. I've lived in some very large cities (Philadelphia is pretty big) so I've had my fill of them.
