Getting the word out from afar
Hi folks. I am in North Carolina and looking to promote an event occuring in Grand Forks this weekend. Can you tell me some local advertising venues (free, and online, in particular)? I have posted an ad on craigslist and sent out some tweets on twitter. What is a good way to reach UND and UM-Crookston students? I dont have a facebook account, but maybe now is the time to start one.
Thanks for any advice you can share!

Summer season is in...of course that means quite a bit less students in town... what type of event??
For the local newspaper Grand Forks Herald I would suggest posting an ad in the city briefs section It is different than the classifieds and runs in a separate part of the newspaper (usually the local section) in a boxed corner and is pretty visible. More visible I would say than posting some ad in the event column of the classifieds. It is not free...but costs are very low for the city briefs section.
Grand Forks Herald | Grand Forks, North Dakota
Depending on the event....you may want to contact some local bloggers to get the word out....There are several bloggers in the area...one for the music scene...and some others....that may be helpful. Here is a list...
Grand Forks Herald | Grand Forks, North Dakota
valley sound is music
pop culture is general arts, etc
These blogs get a fair amount of views....may want to contact any of them to see whatelse is avbl....but other than being in town and having fliers in town....these are the best bets from a far that I can think of.

Thank you!!! I will look through the blog list - that sounds like a great idea. I think an ad has been placed in the paper already.
The event is a fundraiser concert at the Grand Forks Fairgrounds this Sat. with the band Hairball. I didnt know if it would violate terms of this site to post details, but since you asked, I will at least share that much! Thanks again!

Hi
Just thought of this....the GF area visitors bureau has a website with a calendar of events on it. I do know this site gets quite a bit of hits from outside the community....It may be free and if so worth a look.
Calendar of Events - Grand Forks, ND and East Grand Forks, MN
Also this place which is a website of arts, entertainment info using combined resources of the GF Herald and Northern Valley arts council.

I would also check out the High Plains Reader, which I believe still does distribute in Grand Forks (although they are based out of Fargo now).

Travis is correct....though not sure of their publication date. Your event is coming up soon...but worth checking out. It is avbl in many places in GF.
