I need to switch over my license plates and driver's license to North Dakota, but can't get an answer about how much the vehicle registration will cost. The DOT website doesn't have a fee schedule and when I called the office they said they couldn't tell me until I showed up in person.

Does anyone here know what the tax rate is on light trucks in North Dakota? Is it based on value or weight. What are you all paying for your yearly renewals?

Thanks.

Compared to California, ND tags for my Dodge Ram 1500 were cheap! cheap! cheap! 2001 Dodge Ram and 1996 Nissan Altima were $189 per year for both.
My Dodge Ram in California was $240/yr.
As far as driver's license, if you are driving with a present valid drivers license, all you need is a (Certified-can't be just a copy) copy of your birth certificate and $8. No need for written or driving tests. Also, if you have a motorcycle endorsement on your present drivers license, it will transfer over to NoDak.

Good Luck!

Find out when you get here. Count on it being relatively inexpensive. ND is not an uptight state for paperwork formalities or excessive fees. There is also no state vehicle inspection in ND. Yes they are sticklers here for a producing a state certified birth certificate for a license change. Get that certificate right now or asap.
