We are heading out later this month to check it out. We're going to spend a couple days; checking out the farm & the mobile that we're (hoping to) buying. I can't wait!

Darrell Graff actually owns the rib house. Along with a fire training camp/building.

You'll be fine!
Just be ready for total peace and quiet and the clearest skies during the day and night.
The main thing that I miss about Ca is all the great food/places to eat.

We're so sick of California - there are things we'll miss I'm sure - but I'm sure we'll figure out how to adapt.

Afterlight I'm bringing California cuisine with me. We're busily stocking the freezer with things like lemon grass, and all manner of ingredients so that I can cook in my usual style when I want to. I figure that'll give me time to either figure out how to grow what I need or find a place that has it. I love to do Asian/Latin fusion stuff - way too fun.
Hopefully we can get together and have some dinners, BBQ's, and fun

Norway 99 - There are so many beautiful areas in North Dakota besides its great educational system, clean environment and friendly warm community. There is this nice community called Hazelton in North Dakota with a very impressionable school. My family and I relocated here from a substantially large population, and my children have adjusted wonderfully. [Mod cut - please do not put your email in a post. Put it in your profile.]

Being Norwegian, Minot, ND would be a good fit. We have a Scandinavian park and once a year, a Scandinavian festival that last for 3 days. One year, the queen of Sweden came to the festival. She is a childrens book writer. There are small towns around this area with jobs in all types of energy, hospital, and generic. Something to think about.

The towns of Edinburg, Park River, Cavalier and Mountain are very Scandanavian, mostly Icelandic and A LOT of Norsk decendants too. These are all wonderful small towns! Park River is just beautiful and friendly, Cavalier is a bit bigger then the others, all are within an hour and half to Grand Forks for shopping and whatnot. Minot is a bit big I think, for anyone looking for a small town. But there are plenty of small towns around Minot that are a nice fit. Go North a ways, up to the Can. boder is a lot of norweigen decent again.
Fanciesmom - Wonderful!! You might get a little frustrated when you run out of your cali goodies, but a lot of grocery store managers will order in what you like so don't be afraid to ask! Also, before you get too frustrated with lack of variety around here in ND (it happens!! I LOVE this state but even I get really sick of that part sometimes!) - just remember you can order any dang thing online (duh!) and ship it in.

I am bringing a supply of corn husks (tamales), dried hominy (masa for tamales & tortillas), dried chiles, lemongrass, chipotles and sauce, and whatever else I think of. I already do a lot of shopping online because we like odd things. We've also got several citrus trees and a fig tree that will become houseplants there until we can get a greenhouse built. I'm freezing, smoking, drying, and whatever I need to do to get my ducks in a row.

Funny thing I find is that I have no issues finding the latin / Jamaican food I grew up with in Fargo. Other than a real queso blanco, been having good luck.
I even found (assuming its still there) that TGI fridays makes some good sweet plantains as a side dish if you ask for it (its part of a sandwich but you can get it seperate) My German North Dakotan wife does an awesome job of combining what she grew up with for food with the food I grew up with that she has learned to make.

We're willing to drive to get the stuff we need to cook the meals we want. I'll look forward to our first foray into Fargo!
