Default Three weeks in the Grand Forks, ND area

Hello,

I am wondering where the hottest attractions, best beaches, tastiest restaurants, and chicquest clubs (house, progressive, and trip-hop scenes preferred) are in the Grand Forks, ND - East Grand Forks, MN area. In other words, what would be the best way to spend a two or three week vacation there in August and September? My mom doesn't like big cities or long car rides so no going to Fargo or Winnipeg. Please keep it within 30 miles. Thanks.

In terms of clubs...I am out of the bar scene...but I know that N 3rd Street downtown is the hottest place to be on Fri-Sat nights esp when the students return in a couple weeks. Gilley's is downtown along with a couple bars across the street (Level 10 I think is a name). I dont know their taste in music at these places....but I am sure it is what will cater to the college crowd. There is Buck's on S Columbia Rd which on the weekends usually plays more dance-techno music in the later half of the night. It is usually crowded too in the after 10 pm period. El Roco nightclub up on N Washington and Gateway (US 2) is similar and is usually crowded as well. Bars are open to 2 am.

I would recommend going tubing on the Red Lake River near Red Lake Falls...Voyageurs View is the name of the place and it is a lot of fun!

Voyageur's View - Home

Canad Inn on S 42nd Street has a nice waterpark for indoor water fun.

As for restaurants...Sanders is a more upscale independent restaurant downtown on S 3rd St. Not a very dressy place but not a sandals and t-shirt place either. More expensive and laid back place to dine. But otherwise I stick the usual chains....Buffalo Wild Wings...Ground Round...Applebees...Texas Roadhouse....Space Aliens....Red Lobster....among the names that come to mind. You wont find terribly much ethnic food choices in town other than american style Chinese food and there is one Korean food restaurant.

For shopping....besides the usual there is a Cabela's in East Grand Forks downtown (a smaller version) and it is a nice place to visit.

You can tour the Ralph Englestand Arena....they have tours almost daily.

That's what come's to mind right now... maybe someone else can fill you in on other things I dont know about. Having 3 young kids under 5 years of age I dont get out much

Yes nice weather this weekend. Likely busy. Boy it has been a while since I have driven there. Would depend on what side of GF you are coming from....but 1 1/2 hr would be a very good estimate plus or minus 15.

Several ways to get there....many people take the most direct way which is to take Hwy 2 across the river then turn left at first light (Hwy 220 north) out of East Grand Forks....then turn right on Polk county road 21 and head east. It becomes county road 3 in Pennington county. It is a very straight shot and easy drive. Then head south upon getting to Hwy 32 toward Red Lake Falls.

One could also take Hwy 2 (4 - way) all the way past Crookston to Hwy 32 and then head north to RLF. Voyagerus view is just north of RLF hence it is shorter if you take the first way there.
