Just curious, I remember hearing something about homesteading in ND sometime back. Is it still possible to do? Where would one find info about this? A Google search doesn't show much.

i think a better idea would be explaining what you mean by "homesteading".

when i think "homesteading", i think about people that claimed unsettled land and used it to cultivate (pun intended, ah!) a new life for themselves.

Sorry bud. You're about 100 years to late for North Dakota. The last "homestead" was in Alaska about 30yrs ago or so.

As with most states dealing with rural flight, some polticians have entertained the idea of a "new" homestead act, but as of yet nothing significant has surfaced.

Perhaps the poster was referring to the " hip" meaning of homesteading.

That is where you buy about 10 acres of marginal land, at a ridiculously high prive, refer to it as " prime farmland", call yourself a " farmer" cuz you let a dozen " free range" hens run around, proclaim you are " living off the land" , and commute to a job in town everyday to make it work out and pay the bills.

If that is the kind of " homesteading" you are referring to, the Green Living forum is the place to check out.
