Default Planning to visit western ND in Oct or Nov. Need advise & suggestion please...

Hello all,
I very much enjoy reading the post on this site. Y'all seem like a great bunch of folks. After much research, I would like to visit the western part of ND for a week or two of vacation just to check out the area. Honestly, it seems like an area I'd love to move to one day....soon, hopefully. Could someone tell me of some interesting things going on in October or November of this year (2009)? What can I expect concerning the weather? I am a 41 year old divorced guy who loves going to concerts or anything music related. Any county fairs going on around that time? What can you tell me about the Norsk Hostfest in Minot? I am very interested in the Minot, Donnybrook, Kenmare, Williston, Medora, Beach areas. Any help and suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Maybe I'll run across some of you at a festival or fair soon! Thanks again. I look forward to hearing your responses.

Take care,
Alan

A lot of things start shutting down after Labor Day....like the Medora musical. Here is a list of attractions in Medora via its city website.... I did see the ND cowboy hall of fame and of course regardless of the season there is the badlands in the area.

Here is info on this years Norsk Fest
Norsk Høstfest - North America's Largest Scandinavian Festival

Maybe more locals from that area can fill you in. As for weather in that part of the state. It varies greatly from year to year. October is usually ok though mid to late October snows can occur they usually melt pretty quickly. In November the temperatures start falling fast and can be quite cold at times (well below freezing) and snow is more common.

Tire chains. I lived out on the farm and never used tire chains. This is not the mountains, it's the plains. And yes, it could snow in october, but one year, it didn't snow until December 23rd. Almost had a brown Christmas.

Coming soon in Minot will be the Grape and Garlic festival. This weekend is the Motor Mania with everything from drag racing, auctions, shows, etc. The Hostfest, is coming Sept 29 - Oct 4 is full of free day long entertainment at the fairground, cost is admission fee. Tomato festival I believe is over. Mouse River Players are always looking for actors and stage hands. Football is starting up. Minot Downtown Association will be hosting the Fall Festival on Sept 12th and the Wine Walk is the 17th. In Minot, there are always activities going on, it is just what you prefer to do.

Chains maybe on my big truck - snow tires and studded tires the rest of the time. The snow this time of year doesn't stay around long - as soon as the sun hits it - or the wind blows - it's gone. Just layup wherever you are.
