How did the house hunting go? I have been looking for rentals as well and it seems pretty scarce, or either that, the place is too small or it's way too expensive! We might be moving to this area in the next several months...not sure yet, since the government takes a hurry up and wait attitude with everything. We have a large family (4 kids) and 1 dog (a chi-hua-hua, as my oldest calls her!). We will not be able to buy anything right away, but will be looking at buying a home further on down the line. Any information would be lovely! Thanks!

We did eventually find a rental and I had been looking and calling since July. We got VERY lucky, everyone is shocked we found one so quick, and that they allow pets. The one thing I hate about this though is that when the time comes for our name to come up on the base housing waiting list...we will have to break our lease or wait until our lease is up and hope they still have a house. Ugh. It's frustrating. I can tell you right now there are NO apartments that allow pets, so that will be out of the question. Also, if you are relocating because of the air force, make sure you call the inn on the base way ahead of time to get a pet room...they only have 5 for some reason. Look for a rental house, get your name on the waiting list as soon as possible. The pet deposit to rent in a house will be pretty high, too. At least $1000. It's crazy up here. My husband asked if they hated animals or something. I think they have it out against cats and dogs here Good luck!

The rent at the apartment I'm living in keeps going up due to the boom in Minot. I think in the last year and a half, it's risen exactly $100, which is ludicrous. I chose this apt. because it was reasonably priced and affordable with my income, and now I barely scrape by because costs have risen so much. It's great to have new people moving to Minot, but unless I get a better job (or a 3rd job!) this constant increase in rent is going to kill me. My hopes for finding a cheaper place are diminishing now too after reading these boards. Apparently it's much harder to find a cheap place now than it was 2 years ago.

It seems that they would want until all the houses on base are finished to accommodate all the new people moving to the base.
