Anyway to wrap up my comments on this thread, If you feel that your employment and wage should compete with oveseas equivalents which ironically includes a communist government and there various abuses with the blessing and encouragement of your government via its legislation, by all means, keep assuming whats between your ears will be your saving grace.

Welcome to the world wide market. Again, if someone in China without so much as an elementary education, who can't read, write, or speak a world of english, and probably hasn't eatten a decent meal in his entire life can do what you do at a level consumers are happy with... why do you deserve more?
There are 2 choices... either the consumers can begin to demand a level of quality that pushes the manufacturing requirements beyond the level of the cheap 3rd world labor... or American can increase their value adding skill set beyond what 3rd world labor is capable of performing at...
The consumers have spoken, we buy the cheap stuff.
It's time for the American worker to stop crying in their soup about it and step up to the plate by improving what we offer as an output to the rest of the world.

If you want to stop outsourcing jobs and prevent illegal immigration, take away the minimum wage. Stop relying on the Federal Government to get what you want and start using what's between your ears.

Do you believe in supply and demand determining wages?
I do.
unlike you, I don't think illegal immigrants should enter into tipping the supply and demand equation.
Surprised that you have no problem with that !

Now where's the fun in that :P
Why is unemployment in ND so low... because skilled labor leaves the state when they graduate from college versus staying there and fruitlessly looking for a job... because most people who move to ND do so for a job and therefore enter the state employed... and because many people have to work multiple low paying jobs to make ends meet... Additionally, aggriculture based states tend to be a bit more consistent with their economies... highs aren't as high, lows aren't as low.

One of the things that a person has to look at with unemployment figures. How are they computed? For instance:
Is the stay at home mom counted?
When a person looses their job, they file and start drawing unemployment. Eventually, that unemployment check ends. Once they are not drawing, are they counted as unemployed?
Where I live, the numbers are computed by those drawing unemployment, and those registered and actively seeking employment through the State employment and job services. Nobody else is counted. But you know there are a lot more unemployed.
A lot of the Northern Plain states along with the Northern Rocky Mountain states are harsh and rough on the pocket book during the winter. Utility bills, extra fuel warming your vehicle, special tires, extra time to travel, etc... So if your not employed, your out of there looking elsewhere. So the numbers seem low.
Plus the low population to begin with. There are just enough jobs for those that are willing to stick with the seasons. You don't find a lot of people hanging around in the winter looking for a job.
