Roscoe Township; Roscoe Homestead
Began reading the Laura Ingalls Wilder biography which parallels some of the geographic areas of my great grandparents. Out of curiosity, I Googled De Smet, South Dakota (one of Ingalls' homes). Not far from De Smet I found a "Roscoe". Recalling stories my husband related about his grandfather's (or greatgrandfather's) homestead near Dickey, N.D., I decided to post an on-line inquiry. There is a Roscoe Township. (I thought another name had been chosen for the township.) His grandfather had been a banker as well as a homesteader, but lost most everything during the Depression of the 30's. I believe the original Roscoe homesteaders had come from Nova Scotia. My husband's father, Henry, was an educator...my husband, Jim, the 3rd of 4 sons. (Jim was born in Marion).
Jim always talked of how beautiful the Roscoe farm was...best in the area. I wonder if it still stands. Any history would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Sheryl Roscoe
