Plus, I miss my friends and family. As it turns out, no one ever comes here to visit and I would have to sell off a body part to be able to afford to fly myself and 4 kids back to Calif. for a visit.

I do have a good job here, and that is the main reason we haven't left yet. I'm worried about the job market in Calif.

ND is very beautiful (even though the winters are so harsh - lol), but it is very, very different from CA. I couldn't wait to get out of CA, but now that I am here, I really appreciate all that CA is...
Then move back to California.

You like your job here, but you don't like anything else... yet you aren't sure about the job market in CA?

You can't have your cake and eat it too!

I miss ND, Id love to return one day...

To quote you...... "Then move back to North Dakota"

Sheesh... It takes more than just uprooting everyone and moving at the spur of the moment. I have to have a plan in place. I have kids to think about.

Harsh much?

I'd love to move back to North Dakota, have been actively looking to, but haven't had any luck. My job industry is going down the toilet.

It just sounded like you wanted ti have your cake and eat it too, the job, but be in California.

Well, I truly do need a good job in California, in order to move back. My husband ditched us here in ND so I would have to be able to survive there with my kids on my own.

I guess we all miss where we are from eventually. It's a part of who we are to some extent, I guess...

I hope you do get an awesome job in ND so you can come back. And I hope I can find a good job in CA so we can go back. I haven't seen my family and friends since I got here. I'm pretty homesick...

But, being on my own now, I do realized that I do have a good job that is keeping us afloat. And to just leave that job with no plan in place would be plain stupid on my part... y'know?

I know this tread was started a long time ago...but I just moved out of ND last week. Ask me this spring when Fargo faces extreme chances of flood...than I'll tell ya if I regret it or not.

Thanks Jammie As a nodak who left for adventure after serving our country-all states included-my question is if all of the great posters can't be happy living around good honest people and find them offensive, where will they be happy? Weather permitting of course.

Myshell, you have been one of my greatest inspirations for moving to North Dakota, so I am very sorry to hear that you and your family are having a difficult time fitting in there. If you have a van or can rent one and have a couple weeks off for vacation, maybe you can drive back to Southern California for a visit?

I'm here in LA now, and it is getting very difficult here. The state is still running a huge deficit and companies are laying off everywhere. Even the LA school district is cutting teachers. Southern California's unemployment rate is more than ten percent here in LA and up to 18 percent in some communities. Thus, this is no place to come to unless you have a firm job offer or have a steady income from another source.

In fact, one of the local news programs here ran a story of the many companies that are hiring in North Dakota, especially in the Fargo area. Some of those companies are coming here to find new recruits. The news program suggested that people consider moving there for employment.

Every day on the local news here, they spotlight companies that are hiring, even if they are only hiring a handful of people at minimum wage. The economy is so bad here that Dodger stadium was hiring some part-time minimum wage workers and thousands of people showed up to apply for a couple hundred positions. Until the economy picks up here, I think you are better off staying there, even if you are not thrilled about it. If the economy gets much worse here, you will be fielding calls from family and friends on how they too can move there. ;0)

Best wishes. Maybe when I get there we can start a Southern California support group?

I knew it was bad in CA, but I didn't realize how bad... When you come back here, you need to bring some good authentic mexican and chinese food with you! haha

Hmmm, there's an idea. Open an authentic Mexican food restaurant. Maybe I'll do just that. I've been looking into moving up there.
