Wait!!!
I know this thread is probably dead seeing as how its 2 years old bye now, but how is the employment situation in ND now, especially for some one in the food industry, or some one who just got theyre CDL??? I have looked at the normal hiring sites and ND has alot more openings then in my state, but what i want to know is are people in ND mostly employed and if so are there still openings??

You can always find work in a restaurant, but it can sometimes be an issue of not enough hours being available. I cannot comment on CDL work.

I'm a staffing manager with SOS Staffing in Williston - we have a TON of work. Not much in the service industry (even though I'm sure there are plenty of positions available as many restaurants and fast food places are constantly advertising for more workers around here). As far as CDL work goes, yes we have positions. Look at The Shopper, www.willistonherald.com, [Mod cut] Companies like Schlumberger are constantly looking for employees with CDL's and these employees usually go temp to hire through SOS.
Biggest problem here is housing. If you don't mind living out of your vehicle you'll be fine. But most apartments have 6+ month waiting lists and places that do come open are often way overpriced.

On the topic of job services, I have not had a pleasant experience at Preference Personnel. Twice I went there, and twice I was treated like it was elementary school again. They didn't help me find anything, once after getting an AAS degree, and again after getting a BA degree.
Overall, with the exception of the receptionist, everyone there came across as being very condescending.

Please could you keep updates going on this site as my husband wants to go and check out the jobs in the western area of North Dakota. We would love to hear what is going on. We are thinking of going in the spring. How is the housing in the area now and are they hiring construction workers still?

Don't only rely on the staffing places. Make sure you go and apply in person also.

i just went to williston the past few days to prospect ,mainly to be an owner operator hualing water . 1 company said bring truck will put you to work right away since i have flatbed experience . another company said bring the truck we will hire a driver for it we would like you to work in the shop on our trucks since they cant find any mechanics ....my prior life before becoming self employeed i worked for fleets in the shop and also at cummins doing engine rebuilds so i have a few different options if i was serious about going out there ... however a few days out there and seeing what kind of cluster it was made me think about it , so im still up in the air if i want to go out there an work .
so basically , alot of jobs out there . go and knock on doors and be ready to work . its a very busy area and people just dont have time to look at paper work . best to just walk in and ask .

Thank you for the reply. I drove out to Williston in May with a friend. He got a job as a roustabout right away cause his brother was already out there and set it up. He's since moved on to something else. Said the work was very hard and the locals (NoDaks as he called them) treated him pretty poorly.
I was also prospecting at the time. I have a CDL but no experience, and it's been two years since I graduated the truck driving program I was in, so that was an obstacle I was running into. Either way I wound up coming home due to some family issues, but I plan on snagging up tanker and doubles/triples endorsements and heading back out in a couple of weeks. I'm kind of banking on winter running a few people off and creating some more opportunities for those willing to freeze it up!
I agree with you man as far as the cluster**** that is going on out there. I have never seen so many contractor work trucks and semis in one place at one time. As soon as we got past Minot you could tell something big was going on (came in on HWY 2 from the East). We wound up camping at the CCC campground on the Little Missouri about 15 miles south of Watford City. The landscape is very different and beautiful btw. Kind of like being on the surface of the moon. A cool change of pace from where I'm from.
I guess on a related note, anyone know anything about Gold Star Trucking out of Minot/working in Stanley? They seem to need quite a few driver's and provide housing for the first 90 days. Thanks!
