The area is starting to come back from deteiation, the winters can be pretty harsh, but if you wear a heavy winter coat, gloves, boots. We do get an avg of 20-25 inches of snow a year.On ocasion we do have blizzards. The avg temps for the winter are 10-31 degrees farenhight. But you will adapt in over a year.I'm from Philadelphia,so it only took a few months.

We recently moved from western NC to Wilkes-Barre, but I had lived near Binghamton NY before (about 14 years ago). In NC, we had the worst winter in 15 years, the heavy snow slid down off our roof & broke the gutters 3 times, and in general was quite a mess, such that moving north was an option, especially when our work dried up. Here in NEPA we got a home at 1/3 the value of our home there, but due to the economy that place seems to be dropping month by month, so it may be a lot less. There are some part-time jobs here, and though nothing great has panned out, we are able to get by so far. This record-breaking July heat wave is extraordinary so far, we expected it to be a lot cooler here.

We moved here in January from the phila. area. I love it here. You adjust to the cold. Do you have a job lined up? Other than that I'd say go for it....It's beautiful....
