Just a small example, but we have a family from Northern New Jersey that bought a home across the street from us a few years ago. They also happen to be immigrants from a Spanish speaking country. When some of the older neighbors saw who was moving into the neighborhood, they were all up in arms.

Well, fast forward to today. This family has one of the nicest houses on the entire span of our street. They have been working on it themselves to improve the property. I'm actually a bit jealous...LOL.

I know that I, and others, can come up with examples of bad apples from North Jersey too. But is that what we want to do? Do we automatically want to label people "good" or "bad" because of where they are from? Would you like to be lumped in with the less desirables of your home area? I know I wouldn't.

I am not in total agreement with what she did. I think, perhaps, she should have worked harder in THEIR community to improve it. Give those people a sense of responsibility in their own communities; own it so to speak so they could improve it.

That's what I've always said. If Sister Adrian wanted to help these people, she should have moved into their neighborhoods and helped them improve it....dumping them in Scranton and helping to get them on welfare and throwing them some free food did nothing but bring the inner-city problems here. Something tell me, though, that her "Friends of the Poor" organization probably received more government money depending on how many people they brought here.

This is not a judgement or anything, it's a simple statement of fact.

I always wondered what we did with the lower Urban Class oh well. Maybe you guys should look into what Newark has done with its crime rate and drug problem. I don't know why you guys haven't taken examples form other cities. People in Southern PA say that Northeastern PA is the least educated part of the state & i can believe that somewhat. Morristown? Caldwell? Those towns aren't even poor? Middle Class towns. I think the ppl moving there are taking advantage of NE PA , i know a few that do in other parts of PA. But PA hasn't caught onto it.

I wouldn't say NEPA is the least educated in the state...not by a long shot, I would say that honor would go to rural parts of Central, North Central, and Western PA. Places like Potter, Elk, McKean, Perry, Juniata, Bedford counties, etc.

a preemptive swb block:
When stats are used to show low levels of education in parts of PA... because of the ratio of high elderly to low youth in certain areas... Stats are a curious thing, you can use them to prove both sides of an argument to a satisfactory conclusion

I'm talking about poor people FROM those towns. I am stating a clear cut, undeniable FACT that there are people from those towns coming here to live.

If Newark and the like are so free of crime & drugs, why are there so many people coming here to get away from it?

I think it depends on what type of intelligence and education we are talking about. I couldn't tell you when to plant what crops or how, etc. So in that vein, I'm pretty ignorant. I couldn't repair a computer to save my life. I couldn't tell you the first thing about working heavy machinery.

Education and intelligence is relative.

Don't be so quick to assume that you can gauge one's intelligence and education by what they do or where they live.

Because its gentrifying and the Middle Class White / Black people are moving back. And those ppl are the No Bull we won't stand for this kind of ppl. But there has also been a huge crime crack down and New Programs targeting crime. So what you guys are getting up there is our waste by product. But you guys seem to be doing nothing about it , and yes i do scan your newspapers.

That is because the powers to be in NEPA have been more concerned about their own personal agendas then that of the people. It has been this way for decades..
