That's great news. Any idea on a timeframe for the waterfront condo towers in Downtown Pittston? I inquired about this project last year, as I was interested in owning a unit there someday, and I never got an answer from your grandfather's company. Has it fallen through (like most other things in Pittston?)

Also, can you please ask him to consider doing some sort of mixed-use project in Downtown Scranton? I've spoken to several people besides myself who would be very interested in purchasing a loft or condo downtown, yet all of the downtown projects (Jefferson Pointe, Connell Building, St. Peter's Square, Sixth Avenue, 500-Block Lackawanna Avenue, etc.) appear to have fallen through. I'm a believer that Scranton is destined for a bright future, which is why I want to be a part of its renaissance in a few years. Why is it that no developer is willing to invest there? The demand for loft-style housing IS there (as I point to the popularity of The Lofts at the Mill as a success story). What gives?

There is alot of paper work and other things before that project could even get off its feet. Project is still looking very positive. I really don't know when exactly when the project is going to take off. Everyone is striving for the towers to be built soon as possible. They are very amazing units.

carbondale gets a real bad rap!
Hi: Moved to Carbondale, Pa. from Myrtle Beach, SC in May 2003 and found a home for $60,000 and with a lot of hard work and about $10,000 more after fixing it up, sold it in 2007 fo$115,000. I lived at 39 archbald st. on the upper hill and was in a real nice neighborhood. The house got a little too big for just me and my wife and moved seasonally to keen Lake, outside of waymart, pa and winter down in largo, florida.
I was born and raised in south scranton, pa. and when I leave NEPA I get homesick as heck. The people in the "coal region" as I got to call the area are nice and friendly and a guy who left NEPA to work in fla., says the area in NEPA is unique.
So if you are still in carbondale, or NEPA and do not mind the winter, I would say, be happy and stay.

Driving Home from the Javitz Center in New York tonight I ask a colleague what he thought of Carbondale. I told him everyone was giving it a bad rap without knowing he grew up there, LOL. I said,"So you can verify that these rumors aren't true?" He said nooo, but... Then told me that the Mayor was a drunk idiot who spent $10,000 on a new plaque announcing "Entering Carbondale" Go figure...

If you do not like Carbondale, then stay out.

The schools are bad...they consistently rank at the bottom of all area schools in their test scores. The houses are cheap because nobody really wants to live there. There's not much of an economy in Carbondale...most people there have to drive to Scranton for work.
If you want somewhere that is near to Carbondale but much nicer...look about 15 miles to the north to Honesdale, a very nice well-kept town with a thriving little downtown with different kinds of shops and restuarants, and plenty of outdoor recreation nearby. Otherwise you're best to look further down the valley closer to Scranton. But avoid "Garbagedale" at all costs.

If you do not like Carbondale, then stay home. A lot of hard working and decent people live there. It is a safe and community friendly town.
