Okay you are going to claim that it isn't enough. That who cares, but.... I wouldn't expect any less. Your mindset is that the University is a liability....

Denaples is open to the community...there have been political debates held there on numerous occasions..in the matter of minutes I found the following events taking place there...

AN EVENING OF LOCALLY PRODUCED SHORT FILMS: April 24, doors open at 7:30 p.m., DeNaples Center, University of Scranton, free.

That could of easily been held at the Hilton Conference center or the Radisson. I would rather have the land on the tax rolls generating money then another building at Da U.

The University eating up land like a hungry dog is not progress for our city nor is it progress for our region, its progress for Da U and only Da U.

I guess since the rest of us only live here in Podunk Pa and not in the burbs of DC we are uneducated, mindless, country folk that wouldn't know what progress is, right?

Thanks for the lesson and the help.

32% of the property in the city of Scranton is tax exempt, now you explain to me how the hell we are going to ever generate any tax revenue when 18% of the houses are for sale and 32% of the property is tax exempt? maybe we should sell the rest of the city to Da U for one lump sum and move out and let them have it.

Mod cut - personal attack

I would be careful making allegations like that without any evidence to back it up, especially on such a public forum.

I was recently in the City. My opinion is the residents of Scranton should thank the University for donation of 175K. It should thank the University for allowing residents of the city to use many of its facilities. Lastly, it should thank the University for buying decrepit old buildings and replacing them with new, state of the art facilities.

I have said this before and i will say it again. Scranton's only hope is its Higher ED institutions. The U of S, Lackawanna , Marywood and Commonwealth MED should get anything they want if they are looking to grow and add services and size.

Short-sidedness and jealousy is the name of the game in Scranton. The U is one of the true assets to the City. 175K gift per year, outstanding education and a Campus that is investing in growth and technology yet the highly intelligent residents of the area complain.

A gift? They should be paying upwards of a million a year for the property they have taken from the tax rolls and the services that there students and facilities use.

They absolutely should not get whatever they want, they should pay for what they want.

Nothing else you said pertains to the residents of this city and the students all high tail it out of the area anyway, JUST LIKE YOU DID.

$175,000 from a school the size of Da U is a joke, they probably spend that much cleaning the bathrooms on campus in a year.

Whats worse is that the crony, former crony or just plain short sighted crony wannabes think that its ok for a school that size to contribute a paltry amount like that to its host city. Da U is a parasite that lives off of the property, services and finances of the city of Scranton and sooner or later that will change once we can find a real mayor that will put the screws to them.

What are they going to do move? Close the buildings to the residents of the city? Who cares, force them to pay or let them get theri own fire andpolice departments.

Spoken like a true Doherty hump, who left for greener pastures himself.

Again, I'm the furthest thing from a Doherty Hump there can be. You're confused.
