Diagonal Road is 'Horicon Rd.'.

It's called brainwashing. I also have copies of my Air Force and Army records so there's no way I can forget.

Now that the weather is starting to cool off, I'm headed to NYC on the 24th. I'll decide on a final destination once I get off the bus in the Port Authority Bus Terminal (PABT).

I gave up on the tourist traps years ago.

There's a lot of interesting places in the NYC area as long as you stay away from the tourists. I found a lot of good, decent, inexpensive diners/restaurants by getting on the subway and getting off wherever I decide to.

There's a lot in Yonkers, Bronx, Brooklyn, Queens, etc. A lot of people are afraid to explore places away from the main areas.

There's also a place on 235th Street where a cheeseburger, french fries, a cup of soup and a drink (soda, coffee) cost $8. You have no choice----the soup comes with the cheeseburger.

This is nice and interesting also. It's on the site where the 1964 New York World's Fair was held.

I've never been to a Greek bakery. Their stuff looks great. I'd go there just because they were a Mom & Pop. I really loved those old stores in NEPA. I guess a lot of people from all over loved their home town stores.

It was a different world.

Yeah,
with you there..Mom and Pop stores rule..the people used to live above the stores and work long hours..
The kids( our generation) don't want to put in those hours and all want to live in nice houses,
I mean, can't blame them..
that is what killed the Chambersburg ( Trenton) Restaurant scene that thrived from the 1950s-90s.
I love Mom and Pop stores, bodegas, restaurants all over the world.

There was a a deli near Toms River, they had a lot of Greek exports, and made their own Greek pastries and Feta.

They closed last March..retired back to Greece..

I got a great recipe from them..;

Take some Jersey grape or cherry tomatoes, slice them in half..
heat up some chopped garlic in some olive oil, throw in tomatoes and sauteed til the skins start to loosen,..
put in a few teaspoons of capers...
Take a nice size square or chunk of Feta cheese, place it in the center an oven proof or baking pan..place the tomato mixture around the cheese..

put under the broiler til cheese gets a nice crust...
good appy, or lunch with some stick bread.

stay tuned for the eggplant parm recipe my sister and I came up with when we grew weary of the local 'mushy' local version...

Whenever I'm in the NYC area (except the tourist area) I always find a Mom and Pop store or bodega to go to. Even the Mom & Pop/small independent restaurants are really good. They cater to the neighbors and are reasonable. If the 2 of you (Gerania & Magoo)lived closer I'd be after the 2 of you to get together as often as we could.
