The best laid schemes o' mice an' men...

My son arrived here yesterday much later than expected, so the afternoon plans were shelved. We had planned to go out for a drink and a nibble, too--which we eventually did.

We stopped at a couple of places which were so crowded that there was barely standing room. Good thing that the Fire Marshal was off duty. We drove to half a dozen places only to find that they had closed early. While I'm all for businesses closing on major holidays, I was a bit surprised to find five normally busy, popular restaurants dark at 6PM.

Ready to throw in the towel, my son remembered a sports bar/restaurant which would probably be open. On the way there, we saw a non-chain place, and though the parking lot was pretty full, we went in to have a look. Two seats! There was a table for two in the bar. Yay!

I had a lovely Chardonnay and an impressive shrimp cocktail. Junior had a craft beer and bacon wrapped steak bites.

When we were there, he told me that he thought he had, was getting a sinus infection and probably had an elevated temperature. When I offered an ibuprofen, he told me that his stomach probably wouldn't tolerate it. He didn't finish his food or drink.

What's the point of this post? He'd been out-of-state for a few days visiting friends and he drove for five hours to get to my place because we had made plans and he didn't want to disappoint me.

O. Henry. Now I will be able to serve him tea, chicken soup, and Tylenol.

Maybe a big snowstorm this weekend? Too early to say; but keep your eyes on the weather forecast.
