Its not like there's DUI checkpoints 7 days a week, 52 weeks a year...they happen rarely, usually only around holiday weekends and a few others, so for the once in a blue moon you might get stuck waiting at one, so what, if it gets one drunk off the road and saves one life, its well worth it.

I've never come across a checkpoint in my life, and did my share of going to bars and/or driving around late at night in my younger days.

Because you're in business and they are regulated just like any other business, it's just like the health inspector coming into a restaurant. There is definite line between commercial and personal use of vehicles. I'm not referring to DUI checkpoints but the DOT inspection checkpoints.

This "service" is looking more and more like a rip off scheme....hidden fees, memberships, etc...sounds like a scam....

And in today's news, yet another drunk driver ruins lives....2 boys will go through life without a dad because this clown had to get loaded and get behind the wheel, plus he left the scene, left the guy there to die....there should be more of a penalty than 3 to 7 years.....

With that I can agree and stiffer sentences for those caught, I don't think you need to throw first offenders in jail since it is so expensive but instead some very long mandatory community service. Repeat offenders should get some hefty jail time. You won't see that because the current generates a lot of funds.

Gee, it sounds almost as bad as cell phone providers making customers sign up for two year service agreements and hang an early termination fee over their head...

I was stopped several weeks ago at DUI checkpoint in Herndon, VA, and I didn't consider it an "inconvenience" at all. I actually saw one vehicle stopped in the center cobblestone median with a police officer obviously giving the man a field sobriety test. As Go Phillies said, if it helps to save a life, then it's worth it. I was only stuck in the traffic jam for about 15 minutes. Nothing major.

Huh? What? Are you disputing that drunk drivers cause deadly accidents? Are you disputing that human beings do, indeed, become flying debris in car accidents?

Why don't you actually REBUT my argument instead of making stale, pithy statements? It's tiresome.
