Default hosptials and homes...

Hi,
What are the reputations of the hospitals in the Wilkes Barre area as far as employment? We are looking to move down to the area and might work there. Also what are the best towns to move a family to around there, where we can have a nice yard and a safe city without a big commute?
Thanks so much!

Safe city without a big commute? My answer to that one would be Scranton, which also has 3 good hospitals in Mercy Hospital, Community Medical Center, and Moses Taylor Hospital.

Wilkes-Barre, 15 miles to the south, seems to be rebounding somewhat in the downtown, but has a pretty significant crime problem (for NEPA...its not quite West Philly or Detroit). If you land a job at a W-B hospital, I would look across the river to Kingston, which is only a walk across the river from W-B, but much safer and nicer.

Also, people will tell you that the Abingtons (Clarks Summit Area) and Back Mountain area will be the best place for a family, but I disagree.....they're kind of snooty Stepford Wives kind of places and everything will be a drive. My suggestions would be Scranton in Lackawanna County, and maybe Dunmore, Dickson City, Taylor, Moosic, or Old Forge if you want to be outside of the city. For Luzerne County (Wilkes-Barre area) I would look into Kingston, Forty Fort, Swoyersville, or West Pittston.
