You guys don't know how good you've got it. I live in wilkes-Barre and some of the roads here look like a Baghdad highway after a few I.E.D's have been detonated. The potholes on W-B Boulavard are so bad they give that one in Achabald a run for for it's money.

I don't think the area roads are in bad shape - at least not in my neck of the woods.

Inside WB & Scranton City limits, it may be a challenge to protect your tire rims.

Well they did fix some streets in W-B as promised, but to get to the street we are on, they didn't fix the last 1 1/2 blocks that needed it most, full of potholes. They did throw some gravel in the potholes here, but why pave several blocks of one street and ignore the last 2 blocks before the end of the street (Loomis Street)?

Well thank God they are finally paving Coal st in Wilkes-barre.! I don't think that road has been touched in 20 some years! Coal st is one of those roads that no one wants to take responsibility for. The city claims it is a state road, the state claims the city is responsible, there is a dispute between W-B and W-B Twp. about who is responsible because it is right on the border line. Thank God that Penn Dot is finally giving a major overhall to the entire road. It is so long overdue. Now we just have to worry about the traffic for the next several months.

When I had my driveway paved, I talked to the contractor about this. He told me the state sets standards, everyone else is in effect forced to use those standards. How? The state standard used to be two layers, the thicker bottom one with coarser material, and the thinner topcoat with finer material which seals better and is smoother. The state decided a couple of years ago that the top coat is not needed. So the asphalt plants don't mix the finer material very often anymore, since the big volume is in state contracts. Result is a coarser, more porous road surface for everyone.

I agree...and then there's Pennsylvania Ave, where, just before Turkey Hill, you have to drive in the left lane because the right lane is pretty much undriveable.

The roads in both WB and Scranton are really bad in general. Scranton's downtown is horrible. You would think that Doherty would want to show off his ghost town with nice roads, no, he pumps more money into parks and recreation.

hmm--so does this mean an increase in the state contracts for more of this type of asphalt or more jobs for the state contract worker???
