Question Internet Service Providers?

I'm currently with Frontier Internet DSL with about 1.2-1.3 MB download and upload we wont mention how bad that is. Are there any other plans that frontier has that are faster or is there another ISP in my area that is faster? I reside in the 18655 zipcode.

Frontier offers a "3 Mb" (you may get 2.5 Mbs) service as an upgrade in some areas. DSL is distance sensitive so one of the factors in availability to YOU is how far you are from the CO (Central Office) and the nature and condition of the connection gear between you.

Frontier has a captive audience in many 'rural' type areas. They may not offer anything better for years if ever. I don't think it is practical to improve DSL speeds over copper connections. I think speeds can be improved with other transports like fiber or power lines but there is the $$$ problem when deploying. If competition or local governments don't pressure/get involved, ISPs aren't motivated to upgrade or improve services. If you are not able to get cable you are pretty stuck.

Of course, 3Mb is still better than 1.5 (which is a real 1.2 or so) but not near cable speeds.

Google up something like "DSL distance sensitive" or variations and you will find lots of background info.

So frontier is the only deal in my area then? Have you heard about anyother providers coming in or anything? How much does their 3 MB cost per month?

I don't know your area. I am in a different area that Frontier serves. Ask your neighbors or maybe the town clerk/manager etc.

I think it was $5 or $10 a month more for 3Mbs but that was a while ago. You should ask Frontier since their packages and deals may change.

If you have Blue Ridge Cable you can get their cable internet. ranges from 1.5 to 15mbps. I have the G15 which is 15mbps down and 2mbps up. I think BRC covers your area
