It's terrible how a few "bad apples" ruin things for the good ones. I hope when my family moves to NEPA (we have decided we will*for sure* be relocating in about a year) that we aren't shunned because we moved from NJ. I'd hate to think that my kids might have problems making new friends because we lived 2 hours or so south of that area. Moving is hard enough as it is, especially considering we never have before, and changing schools will be difficult.
Forest Drive, why would you post such terrible things? Are you perhaps attention deprived? There are obviously people from that area on this board and even though you have every right to say what you want you must have known it would upset someone..
SWB I just had to add in that I love the fact you included the Office reference!! I am a big fan of that show too. I don't know if you "myspace" but Angela was in Scranton not long ago (along with Kevin) and blogged about how much she enjoyed going there and she plans on sharing a lot of info with the writers about the area to include in the show. She also said she loved the people there and would really enjoy going back there soon

I think you will love it here in Pa.......It is just so beautiful with so much to do.
I do remember being in a restaurant and when one of the ladies heard me say we came from NJ ( it was about 10 years that we were here already) she looked up at me and said......."Oh, New Jersey.......we don't want you here."
But, besides that lady.......I have always felt welcome and at home.
The kids will surely enjoy the schools, so many kids from over the borders anyhow.
There is plenty for them to explore and enjoy.........from lakes, to boating, to hiking, sailing, swimming, rafting, rock climbing, karate, dance school etc......
The more I am here the more I love it.
I have more land then I ever would behold in NJ.......
There is less crowds, easier driving, and beautiful scenery along the way.
Its a great place to be.

you Will hate it.
The area that I speak of You can count on your fingers, those folks with CPA.
By the way the folks I'm speaking of are born and raised in Jim Thrope and Lehighton. These folks are plain Lazy living off the system.
These town are not pretty, I don't know why anyone would take pictures of thiese towns, unless you youself are from pa.
Mrs NJ beware as soon as you open your mouth and they know you are not from that one horse town, the folks will make you know to get out. And why would you want to go to an area where you are going to be hated. Just because you come from an 1 or 2 hours away. Why would you put your children in that kind of atmosphere.
Like I said coming from the nc the folks did it to me, then I started to talk to other folks one man that was from South Dakota and he also said that the first question was your not from around here.??? Then this asian woman said that the treatment she received was terrible, due to her accent.
Again what a shame that these cave men have never heard an accent.
What kind of a way is that of these towns that have nothing to offer, for adults or children...
Please don't say those ugly stores with old furniture in them, that are just garbage. Are pretty. Pretty ugly yes...
People are not welcoming and yes It does seem like those folks want to blame the folks from ny and nj. The drugs were always in these towns way before those other folks moved in.
Those folks don't like anyone..Just the ones that are from that ugly town.
The cave men can keep the cave that they live in....

I'm actually not considering either of those towns for our move. I don't know the towns and can't say either way if it's good or bad..my point was this thread seems to have been posted with the intentions to offend those people. As far as "nothing for the kids or adults to do"..well I guess that depends on what *you* enjoy, right? I just read a list of activities posted by Summerling, all things *we* enjoy. I'm not exactly living in the 'big city' right now as it is lol As far as being hated, apparently there are 'transplants' from other areas, so I suppose if the natives aren't friendly, the imports will be considering they're in the same boat. : )
I think, when it comes down to it, there are mean people no matter where you are. I do agree with the drug comment you made by the way..sadly there are drugs and drug addicts everywhere.

You should try Whitehall some parts are still very good. The folks are much more normal..
Also stroudsburg the folks in that part of town are normal as well. Again look into some areas..
But when you start hitting those one horse towns that's when you must beware. That asian women said it all when she said how the folks treat her.
These folks are very small minded that's why.
I was born in germany, let me tell you that the folks out in Lehighton and Jim thrope want to say that they speak Dutch.
Let me tell you they speak junk, I did not understand a word that was spoken.
I don't know what kind of Dutch these Folks think they are? But not the real German that I am being born in Germany I speak the correct German. Not the Junk these folks claim they speak.
Jim Thrope is filled with Irish not the class you are thinking of ?the ones out in nc are the true Irish. These are the low class. The true drinkers Lazy.
Again what a shame....

As we know...........there is always one in a crowd....LOL
Let me tell you some fun places.....I'll give you a short list.....
The Beltzville Lake you can picnic, take your power boat ...or rent a boat of most types and also a kayak........and there are some wonderful fingers of that lake, to go down and explore. Birds, and turtles, and clear, cold, wonderful swimming. Ahh........just fantastic.
At Hickory Run State Park....swimming, boulder field, hiking to the Hawk Falls.
How nice is it that the Great Wolf Lodge, in early spring up until about June 14will let you go for the day to their waterpark for a small fee. The kids just loved it.
You can ski at various places...Camel Back, Blue Mt, Elk Mt. ( others)
In the summer Camel Back becomes Camel BEACH and its a water fun park.
You can go up to Wallenpaupack lake and power boat around, or fish for that matter.
There are YMCAs at various locations to teach your children to swim, as we did the twins early on.
There is various dancing schools like Melody's in Brodheadsville.......
Two Karate places that I can think of right now one in Brodheadsville and one on 209 out by Saylorburg.
Your wife can go to the Outlet Mall, Home Depot, Lowes, or Kohls in one quick sweep. Or go to Target, TJMax, and Pier One all in one location along with the Home Depot.
The kids find places to sleigh ride ( right now my yard is their domain in the winter).......their is bowling in town. Quite a few towns for that.........
We have a great fair coming up the end of Aug. The West End fair.....and its become better each and every year.
Dorney Park is not that far away. And a trip to see the Amish and all thats there is only about 2 hours. Cabela's is about 45 min. for the sports lover.
There is a huge flea market that is just great in Marshalls Creek.
You will not miss your old town........believe me.
It is just so relaxing, so fun to come home to this place of beauty.
These mountains will call you home from no matter where you travel.
The kids will not be standoffish to yours........many have come from other places too.
You will come.........and you won't even want to look back.
I'm happy for your choice and I hope to hear when you arrive.....

You really are a piece of work! The people told you they speak Dutch, not German. They do speak Dutch - Pennsylvania Dutch. They could converse with each other and any Amishman they come across. I took German in high school and I couldn't understand my great grandmother, but that didn't make her an idiot or stupid. She spoke English just fine and was a wonderful woman.
As for the Irish - I don't know much about them. They're probably descended from the original coal miners, who worked long and hard in terrible conditions so that our descendants could have electricity and winter fuel.
It seems to me that you're one of those southerners with the "Yankee go home" attitude, yet here you are among us Yanks, I assume by choice. Do you still live in PA? If so, why?
