Please keep the talk local. This is not the place to talk about whether hunting is ethical or not.

'ha-ha once again"??? kinda like a schoolyard response...but you are a grown man thst I come to respect, and in effect, should have responded like one ...

Your Handle 'Varmintblaster' kinda sets a "mindset' to color, or disparage,
any logical arguements you might present to further your theories about Hunting for sport/trophies to people who don't agree with your philosophy.

Really, I think you are a cool guy with a lot to offer, and I have learned volumes from your posts as a 'Noob' on this site...your whole mindset falls almost exclusively back on the PA Game Laws that you know so well, but does not allow for even an iota of Human Emotion or motive...

Sorry If I might have offended you...

Happy Thanksgiving...

P.S. as you know Black Bear season in designated zones in NW Jersey starts next week and a half....over 3,000 bears are available for the slaughter.
Hope the Mafioso doesn't 't use this as an excuse to 'Harvest' rival Crime Families and state in court;

'He looked just like Gino Provolone...just as Hairy, I thought he was bustin' into my house... so I wasted him on my stoop."

Coalboy:

Emotion has no place when it comes to the management of the Pa Black Bear Population here in NEPA - or any other game animal. It's based on science and reality.

I don't think my questions or comments were disparaging at all.

Sure, folks are entitled to their opinions, but I'm curious about what their answers would be, and if they think about their answers in relation to the harvesting of animals for non-food purposes, then perhaps they would not be so quick to judge.

btw - my neighbor successfully harvested a male bear about 1 mile from my house this afternoon. Estimated weight was 500 lbs. I guess he will know for sure when he returns from the PGC check station. I knew that bear - seen it a few times crossing through my property headed across the Lehigh River.

He intends to skin it tonight so that the meat cools properly. Very important to do so because the bear hide is so thick and insulates the meat. I will be there lending a helping hand. I'm looking forward to a roast off that bad boy.

I have not hunted bear this year, but I'm more than ready for the Pa Rifle Deer Season that starts in a few days. Really looking foward to a fresh back strap.

p.s.
I know you were joking about the Hairy Italian reference - but that could be viewed as a very disparaging remark if one wants to make an issue of it..

And like we discussed earlier in this thread, I would not use the word harvest in such a case. I don't think Tony Soprano ever ate a rival family member.

later..

Bear may not be the best choice of meats - it's sort of stringy and greasy, but it's good in stews and for roasts - sort of like chuck meat.

Tell me go phillies and Magritte:

Do you own shoes, belts or coats made from leather products?

Do any of the female members of your family use cosmetics or perfumes?

Unless both of you can answer NO to all those items, then your statements are hypocritical.
I don't know nor did I ever say I did; which is why I said "I would hope" instead of making a definitive declaration.

Eating the meat and throwing away the head? Sure. Why not?

How is owning leather products hypocritical? They are serving a purpose. I do use cosmetics. home

Hmmm, Back strap...I'd be a hypocrite if I were to say my mouth is not watering right now like Pavlovs Dog...
My Uncle matt from WB died of a heart attack in 1988 (58 years old) dragging a big buck out of the wood....

I remember him sharing first hunt Back strap with my brothers and me just 'waved' over the fire....

Uh, who said anything about Italians?...I know lots of Hairy guys name after Cheese...

Hey, If Tony Soparano ever ate a rival family member.....I don't want to know...
I don't want to be at a R.I.C.O trial discussing his sex life....

I spent every third Friday, 6 months out of the year, testifying in front of a Grand Jury and every Monday morning, every month, for 10 years in Municipal Court presenting cases when I was 'on the job.....
God I love retirement!

I heard this bear was being fed by locals. If that's the case, it was a danger to the community.

I haven't been keeping taps on what's being discussed here about this bear but I know in the press many have voiced concern against this bear being killed...so I wonder for a bear of that size would it have been better to allow it to roam around the neighborhoods it was frequenting and possibly attack someone like a kid or an adult and have killed that person?? I would bet that most would not be happy to hear that and would voice concerns as to why wasn't the bear killed sooner. Personally, I would rather have seen either 1) it being tranquilized and relocated to a more wilderness wooded area away from communities or 2) legally killed as it was Would you want the unfortunate chance encounter with an animal of that weight and size staring you down?? I wouldn't...a bear that big no unarmed citizen stood a chance of fighting off. Constructive replies/criticisms of my views accepted...I'd like to know what you think of my view of the situation...
