Luzerne county outdoors is really beautiful-we have so many parks and forests and trails(I love living here). It is what goes on indoors that is ugly and corrupt.

I spent a good part of the day in Suscon,Pa. today.

Took my lab for a ride because I wanted to sight in a rifle again for tomorrow's deer opener. Spent about an hour at the gun range. My dog is a bit older now (8yrs old) and is a little more sensitive to gunshots - so I put a pair of earmuffs on it and the dog sat back about 30 feet and watched me and a few others guys shooting (the other folks got a big kick out of that)..

Then I took a nice hike for a couple of hours along the Pinchot trail that leads across Mountain Meadow Road and follows a nice little stream called Choke Creek - that eventually flows into the upper Lehigh River in Thornhurst.

Had my fishing pole with me and caught 4 trout - one of them about 18 inches and decked out in its spawning colors.. My dog let me fish each hole before taking swim. The water temps are getting really cold but trying to keep a lab out of it is very difficult.

Wish I had my camera with me - I would have posted some pics.

If any of you folks enjoy hiking - I strongly suggest the Pinchot Trail - there are two segments. I recommend the S half that runs along the creek. It is absolutely gorgeous.

ps. - we spooked 3 deer, including 1 buck, bunch of squirrels, a small flock of turkeys that my lab tormented until they took flight, saw an owl perched in a big pine tree lazily napping the afternoon away, and saw plenty of racoon tracks in the wet shoreline of the creek. Plenty of wildlife if you take your time and look around.

As Manny Gordon used to say - ENJOY ENJOY ..the great outdoors of NEPA.
(fyi - the picinic grounds in Lackawanna State Forest just up the road are dedicated to Manny).
