My first name is Ron, my Aunt used to ask me 'Rannie, y'comin over t;night to watch the 'Mad Skwad? (Mod Squad)
If your comin...
stop at ta A n' P and pick up a big bot-el of suda...were gonna cook some Hod-dogs on the grill.

When you shared something, you went 'halfies'

the number eleven was pronounced 'yalevin'

I noticed over the years that the heavy accent is softening on my trips 'Back Home',... yeah 'back home'...I worked at Fairless Steel in the summer months while in college, a good percentage of the guys were from NEPA...
They would always ask each other if they were going 'back home' on the weekend even though they were living in Levittown PA for a good ten years already.

I love the 'fillum'...you kin make good Stinkbombs outta fillum.

T'anks so much for sharing...can't wait to show this to my relatives when they come over for T'anksgivin...they'll be laughing so hard food will be flying outta their mout's!

Depending on where in the area you are, there are variations of hayna. Especially "up da line," you'll hear "enna" or "aina."

These people are friends of mine, and as convincing as they sound, none of them actually speak heynabonic. I know this because I've been in plays with all of them at one time or another.

The "teacher" is Greg Korin, who is a local actor, is a Screen Actors Guild member and has appeared in films and TV. His radio persona is Keith Edwards.

The "jeet yet?" guy is Chris O'Donnell, a local attorney, who performed stand-up while in college.

The woman is Shivaun O'Donnell, (Chris's wife) and she is a manager at Odyssey Fitness Center. (If you happen to run into her, ask her to do her dog dance. She'll be happy to oblige.)

The man with the inhaler is John Schugard, also a local actor/director.

They're part of a comedy troupe called One Laugh at Least. If you have the opportunity to see them live, do it.

I just finished perusing the Coalspeak Dictionary that VB linked, and I couldn't stop laughing
'Haitch,BO', 'Sugar Diabeties'...too funny!
My Babci used to tell us not to sit on the concrete stoop or we would get 'the piles'
I remember talking a lot of flak about the way I spoke when we moved to Jersey in the late fifties.
We always said 'Caffee, What-er' .Fudgikul...'

I worked with a girl from Hazelton, and one day she said, 'Damar I'm goin upta Sears cuz Damar is Sat-ur-dee and they are havin' a sale.'

I knew right away she was from 'Back Home'

I don't think anyone was saying that???Here I am the one with the accent, my husband never sounded like he was from NEPA, till we moved back here. But when I go "home"(to LI) I do bust chops about the NEPA "accent"!

Do people that live in Tannersville and the surrounding areas talk like that? I thought it's a Scranton, Throop, Archbald, Jessup, Olyphant thing.
