The fish monger counters set up outside supermarkets may carry them (they not are not a popular item- so maybe not.

I'd make a call to an Italian deli - they will have them or will tell you who does.

I havent found them at the markets yet, and Doma's doesnt carry them anymore but I didnt think of calling an actual deli so I will try that. I have to stop at the one Chinese market next to QQ in Scranton and see if they carry them.

Throw a line in the river.

Most people aren't aware they are in there. You can still see the eel traps in some areas. If you're going over the bridge in Berwick look upstream and you'll see what looks like V's. Those were eel traps. Might be hard to see from car but easily from a truck.

not to go too off topic but a 'strange' eel trap I remember in a small coastal town in Northern Holland...I took a picture of this old 'local' pulling in a cows head tied to a rope, when he beached it, eels were literally pouring out of the severed head.
He was sooo happy, dancing around the cowshead throwing the eels in a bucket,
Suffice to say I never ate another eel after that scene.

OK is this a PA thing? What do eels have to do with Christmas?
I am guessing that they are not pets.
So you eat eels? Like from the Ocean or a River?
I do not want to taste one and I am sure it tastes just like chicken cause every weird food has been presented to me this way - but like, what do you do? CooK it whole slice it ? Is it a particular ethnic group or a NEPA tradition?
I am very curious.

Oh so an eel is a fish. How is it served?
I have heard about eating fish on Christmas Eve. My husband is Swedish and they eat herring.
But seven? And an eel?

Beats me...I'm Polish, Alsatian, and Silesian German...Eel do not loom large in my family fare...However if your husband is Swedish, the Eel is probably served like Herring, pickled, with onions and perhaps a sour cream type sauce.

It was served like that in Northern Holland and the Frisian Islands as well as Scandinavia when I travelled my way across Europe.

Christmas Eve is a Fast night for most Catholics, so fish is a Mainstay...

In my family, we waited to come home from Midnight Mass and then tore into store bought smoked and fresh Homemade Kielbasa that the menfolk made on Christmas Eve afternoon that they hung on broomsticks to cure next to the Coal Stove...

Then the accordians and whiskey/beer were brought out.....
