It brinks back memories for me too but of others stores that once had a place to buy a tuna fish salad sandwich on toast and a cup of tea, where they gift wrapped your presents and were friendly and warm! I am thinking of the old B.Altman's in Manhasset NY on The Miracle Mile, before Malls became the norm on Long Island.

The bargain basement reminds me of Alexander's in the Bronx where my maternal Grandmother would take us to shop, also of Gertz in Flushing Queens where my paternal Grandmother hunted for bargains.

Yes Boscov's really does haken back to a more simple time!

I think both cities gave Al Boscov some corporate welfare...

I love Boscov's. You can get really, really good prices if you hit their clearance sales - which is what I usually do when I am shopping for seasonal clothes (buy for next summer this summer, etc).

But it does need renovations and a new cooling system - it's always *hot* in there!

Eh, it doesn't bother me. There are a lot of people that work at both stores and it does bring people downtown, in both cities.

love that store, love the vintage feel of the decor and the cute cafe in the basement. better than those large national chain stores (JC Penney, Kohls, Sears, etc.) reminds me of my childhood too.

Boscov's has a vintage feel to it, but nothing like the Globe Store had. The Globe truly was on-par with the original Wanamaker's in Philadelphia and the Macy's of NYC.

Foe those who don't know...the reason Boscov's went into bankruptcy was because AL Boscov passed control of the chain to his son in law, who ran the company into the ground by stopping sales, poor buying and the like.

Al came out of retirement at 80+ years to save the company because he was embarrassed....that name he worked so hard to make great was destroyed in such a short time. They have come a long way since coming out of bankruptcy and things are looking up for sure.

I think that it's good for the downtown areas of both Wilkes Barre and Scranton!
I agree with wbnurseguy that it is a more pleasant experience than shopping at a national chain store.
Love the retro decor and those announcements are precious!

I loved Boscov's growing up...it was also for me a special day for me and my mom to go shopping on the square, and end the day at Boscov's. I will never forget how good one of their real Cherry Cokes could make me feel...or perhaps it was just the quality time spent with my mom. Thanks for the trip down memory lane!

Do they still serve those Cherry Cokes?????
