I am too - we're leaving at 8am the 26th for Orlando. Hoping the snow holds off until I'm well past the state line!

Keep your fingers crossed, click your heels three times, like Dorothy, in the 'Wizard of Oz' and... Godspeed.

For the record, Denton, as of Christmas Eve I will have worked 12 days straight, and then I'm working again December 26 (we're closed Christmas Day). I can't justify driving home five hours on Friday night and then driving back another five hours to Pittsburgh on Saturday evening. I fell onto some hard times financially moving here, but I'm not complaining. I knew living my dream would take tremendous sacrifice, and in a few months when I'm finally "settled" I'll be so much happier.

I'm going to go to a church service Christmas Eve. I'm hoping to go to "Midnight Mass" at my neighborhood Catholic church. Question: As a Protestant am I allowed to attend a mass, or are Catholics in some sort of elite "club"? I'm aware I probably should sit out Holy Communion, but even if I went up to take the wine and bread with everyone else how would they know?

Yes, Denton, I do plan to walk around the city on Christmas Day being cheery and merry.

You're right, they won't know. But when that big-a$$ thunderbolt comes down from the sky, you'll know. Merry Christmas.

RestonRunner, I'm happy to know you took the big leap and are happy and employed in Pittsburgh . I'm sorry about the rift in your family and hope you'll be able to enjoy some time with them in the future, since you won't be there for Christmas. I suspect you'll come up with some kind of adventure to tell the C-D community about . And yes, you're welcome to attend Mass -- I imagine they have some incredibly beautiful old churches there in Pittsburgh -- but no, you should respectfully refrain from going to Communion. Use the time to soak in the lovely atmosphere, especially if you end up at midnight Mass. Merry Christmas to you, and I hope the coming year will be a happier one for you than this past one. I'll continue to check in here to see how you're doing; you know you do stand out in a crowd and we regulars in the NoVA forum won't be forgetting you anytime soon!

Weren't you off work last Wednesday? Or am I misremembering? And weren't you asking for lots of days work? I thought you weren't going home because you were mad at your Dad. Sorry if I misunderstood.

Since I'm not Catholic, I may not be the best person to ask about rules of their church. I try to respect the rules in churches where I am not a member so I do not take communion in Catholic churches. I'm sure you can do as you please, even with an attitude, and no one in a Catholic church will know, or care. Why not go to a midnight service in a protestant church?

Walking around Pittsburgh on Christmas Day very sounds lonely, and very cold, but bring some peanuts for the squirrels, they'll love you for it! OR, help those who are even more alone than you are. Spend a few hours helping the homeless and hungry. It will make you feel good about your circumstances and about yourself!

Good post with good advice! Merry Christmas to you and your family! I'm so excited about Christmas, after having spent a rather cold night chasing cattle in western Loudoun!

Hahaha, gotta love people who dump on the Catholic church but then want the church to accept them at services! lol
