I know our youth group are often visiting people in nursing homes, among other activities.

The Boy/Cub Scouts is an excellent idea as others have mentioned.

If those ideas don't excite you, how about you and your son put on some heavy duty gloves, get trash bags and go to a city park and pick up trash. Most of the parks could use the help.
Thanks.

We do not belong to a church (Agnostic) but I do have relatives that are active in their churches. Might not be a bad idea to see if they need help with things.

I was thinking about 4H as well. Not exactly a volunteer organization, but definitely something that would help instill the values that we admire.

The 4H is a wonderful organization. I'm not sure how agnostic you are, but most church youth groups will allow children to join the youth groups without being members of the church.

Given that you are agnostic, I would steer clear of more fundamental churches.

One final thought, you might want to call Catholic Charities and Habitat for Humanity and see if they can use the help somewhere.

Are there any nursing homes near you? I work at one as a nurse, and you should see the residents' faces LIGHT UP when they see a child!! We have some of the employees' kids in sometimes, and they deliver mail to the residents, or help the activity staff with things like exercise programs. Some of the older kids transport the folks to the beauty shop or worship service. They'd love the company of your son! He can simply visit with the residents and talk to them, and their look of happiness would be worth a million.

Does he like history? Maybe one of the living history sites if you're near one.
