Default Good Places to Eat....

We'll be visiting the home site next week in Greentown and staying in Hamlin. Please suggest some good local places to eat. We really want to get a feel for the neighborhood and thought this would be a good way to accomplish that. We've passed by Spanky's in Newfoundland and that looks like a great place to check out. Any thoughts?

Default Shellys

Alas, the venerable old Hamlin Diner on 590 is no longer... It's now called "Shelly's" and from what I hear, the food is good and they have a good buffet as well. Haven't gone there myself yet, but that's what the locals are saying. I think that's the closest version they have of a local diner.

For Pizza we go into Lake Ariel from 191 and go to Kay's.

Also, Erhardts along 507 by the lake looks nice, and I hear that the prices are reasonable for good food and portions.

In the future, if you ever get a chance to venture into Scranton, (I know not this weekend) I would suggest Cooper's Seafood, very nice atmosphere and good seafood.

If you don't mind about a 20 minute drive from Hamlin, check out Rossi's Italian restaurant on South Main St in Archbald. Excellent food and cheap. You do need to make reservations, though.

Be sure to stop by Keatings for some home-made ice cream after dinner.

If you are looking for a nice place for dinner around Lake Wallenpaupack, try Ehrhardt's or the Boat House. You may want to make a reservation, as these places are very busy on the weekends. (Let me know if you need a phone number.) Twin Rocks (next to Comfort Inn) is also good for inexpensive meals (they serve breakfast all day) and their food is good. It may look like a truck stop, but inside they have a dining room.
I have also heard from many people that the Newfoundland Hotel has a nice menu (we had dinner there a few years ago and it was good). John's Italian in Greentown is great (it's where we buy our weekly pizza!). I haven't been to the one in Hamlin lately, but I'm sure it's just as good. Kundla's has a great BBQ, if you don't mind waiting forever. We used to go to Hamlin Diner for the breakfast buffet, but haven't been since the new owners took it over, so I really can't say how it is. In the shopping plaza where Mr. Z's is on Rt. 590, there is a good Chinese buffet. And if worse comes to worse, there is always Subway and McDonald's!

Thank you all for your suggestions! We'll be sure to try some of them out next week when we're in Greentown.

greentown: Exactly where is John's Italian in Greentown? I don't recall seeing it in our travels. Thanks.
