Default Dickson City Hyundai

You've heard the ridiculous circus-like commercials on the TV and radio, with a voice that sounds like the Monster truck Jam commercials...DICKSON, DICKSON, DICKSON CITYHYUNDAI!!! 20 YEARS 200,000 MILES!!!!!! Moderator cut: Possible libel & derogatory term

Talk about a headache of a car to own, and horrible service from the dealer. We bought the car in 2003 with 14,000 miles on it. It was an OK car for about a year, aside from horrible gas mileage for its class. The it developed a hesitation problem upon starting. We had it back and forth from the Dickson City Hyundai and they claimed they could find no problem....yet the problem continued. Finally, last year, it got to a point where the check engine light was coming on, and the trans put itself in fail-safe mode, locking into 2nd gear. Finally, they diagnosed the problem as a faulty sensor and connection in the trans, but since were were about THREE WEEKS past the warranty expiration (Hyundai's 10 year warranty is non-transferrable, used Hyundais get the remainder of 5 year/60,000 miles) they would not cover it. We even took the complaint to Hyundai's main offices, which fell on deaf ears, where we were told to write a letter, which I did, and received no response. They claimed that there is no proof that the current problem had anything to do with the previous hesitation problem. Well, lo and behold, the hesitation problem stopped after the fix. Well, about a month ago, the hesitation problem resurfaced, and then the check engine light started coming on again, and the trans would shift hard intermittently. I took it to a trans shop to have a fluid/filter change (the warranty is up, so i wasn't dealing with the inept Dickson City Hyundai service department and getting ripped off), and they informed me that there was a serious problem with the trans, as evidenced by large metal shards in an around the filter. I told them not to bother trying to fix the problem, since I am not dumping $1,200-$1,500 into a car thats probably only worth $3,000-$3,500 (on a 2001 with only 46,000 miles, holy low-resale-value, Batman!). We decided to ditch it. We got a new Toyota Corolla and love it.

Plus, with Dickson City Hyundai's very phony sales staff, our salesman came off like the typical crooked car salesman, all he was missing was the Elvis sunglasses, the gold chains, and the leisure suit, and rip off gimmicks such as "Tires For Life:" which pretty much requires that you have ALL service done at their dealership, and requires you to stick to dealer recommended maintenance schedules, over and above manufacturer recommended maintenance schedules, so basically they will rip you off, sell you service you don't need, and throw a set of cheapo tires at you every few years.

Dickson City Hyundai, as well as all Rosado Group dealerships, which include Scranton Ford, Wilkes-Barre Dodge, Milford Chevrolet (or Chrysler, I forget, but it is Milford), Brodheadsville Chevrolet, Clarks Summit Chevrolet, Harrisburg Hyundai, and others, are scam artists. Avoid them at all costs. As you can tell, I believe Hyundais are crap as well, but if you must buy a Hyundai, buy it from Motorworld in Wilkes-barre, a much more professional and honest dealership. The Better Business Bureau rates ALL Rosado dealerships with an unsatisfactory rating, due to multiple unanswered complaints...not even poorly resolved complaints, but rather TOTALLY IGNORED complaints.

Also look up Dickson City Hyundai at Ripoff Report: By Consumers, For Consumers and be enlightened.

My recent vehicle I bought from the Chevy dealership (Fairway) in Hazleton (a friend of ours). *excellent service- highly recommend*
Before that I bought my VW at Kelly's in Scranton....*also excellent service-highly recommend*....
and before that I bought 3 used vehicles at "Reliable Auto Sales" in Old Forge *excellent service- highly recommend*
I would never, ever go anywhere else in fear of getting ripped off, and I have send them so many new clients, due to my recommendations to friends...customers.....

I checked Motor World when I was in the shopping process....and was able to find much better deals somewhere else. They tend to be more expensive then other dealers.

I would highly recommend Toyota-Scion of Scranton (formerly Gibbons Toyota). They are a pleasure to deal with, and don't scam you with any circus-like gimmicks. Everyone I talk to who has been there also says that Burne Honda in Scranton is a good dealership as well. But Dickson City Hyundai and anything owned by Rosado? Avoid like the plague.

Not to mention that Toyotas and Hondas are excellent cars and Hyundais are garbage.

Hyundai = Korean for CRAP

Hello there. I'm sorry to hear about your experiences with Dickson City Hyundai. I suppose they are hit or miss. I've heard some horror stories like yours, but then again a family that attends our church bought a brand new Santa Fe from that same dealership a few years ago, and they were quite pleased with it.

Could I ask you a bit more about your Corolla, as that is among my top contenders for a new car purchase in 2008? What is the fuel efficiency like? I've heard it advertised at around 41 miles per gallon (highway), and like mid-30s per gallon in the city. Is this close? Also, how reliable has it been? Approximately how much are your monthly payments? I'm sorry to be so inquisitive, but I like just about everything I've researched about the Corolla--I just need a bit more reassuring before I shell out the cash for a new purchase.

I bought two cars from Dickson Hyundai and I would not buy a third. I would not recommend this dealership to anyone. They are the biggest ripoffs in the area. The last time I went there, I wanted to buy an Elantra. They tried selling my an Accent, the lowest model they have, for a higher price than an Elantra. I said that's it. I had it with this place and I went to MotorWorld to buy my new Elantra. Being raked over the coals twice by the same dealership was enough for me. The Tires for Life program that you mentioned is a joke. They charge you for mounting and balancing, plus they put inferior tires on the car than the ones that were on there from the factory. I don't like the attitude of the salespeople and especially the cocky attitude of the general manager, Eddie Gallagher. When you deal with him it becomes high pressure. He said if I didn't take the deal that was on the table today, he wouldn't offer it again tomorrow. He wouldn't even give me the decency to go home and think it over and come back the next morning. So all the people out there interested in buying a Hyundai, I recommend MotorWorld in Wilkes-Barre or Major Hyundai in Stroudsburg. Stay away from Dickson City Hyundai at all costs.

go phillies, you might of gotten a bad year for your particular Hyundai. I owned a 2004 Elantra and never had a problem. My friend has a 2001 Elantra and never had a problem. I just bought a 2007 Elantra and I love it more than my 2004. My other friend just bought a Tiburon and he loves that. I don't really hear too many horror stories about Hyundai's. What model did you have? I have owned Toyota's and Mazda's and I liked those also. I try to steer away from American made cars, because the ones that I owned, I has lots of problems with.

The Corolla so far has been great. It rides amazingly smooth for a "compact" car and has a lot of room. Our model, the LE (which is the "higher end" model) gets 38 mpg highway and 30 city, ours is an automatic, ithe manual transmission models get 41 on the highway. From my research, it has the best gas mileage of any non-hybrid car in its class. Reliability I can't really tell you yet, since we just bought it, but Toyota's repuation is that they are pretty much the most reliable cars on the road, along with Honda. We were pretty much down to buying a Corolla or a Honda Civic, but Toyota was offering better deals and rebates, so we went with the Toyota. Our payments are in the $270/month range, but you can buy a Corolla cheaper by going with the CE model, which you can still get pretty well equipped.

So far, I would recommend it. Toyota or Honda would be a good choice. We were going to initially just buy a used car, but the thing with Toyotas and Hondas is that they hold their value, so there really wasn't much difference in price from the used models (in 2002-05 range) and the new ones, so we opted for the new one with a lower interest rate, rebates, and a warranty.

Maybe I did just get a lemon, but that combined with the poor service from Dickson City Hyundai, has left a bad taste in my mouth. Our other car has been a Honda Accord, and I can't say enough good things about Hondas. Plus, what initially led us to buy a Hyundai, the lower cost compared to Toyota and Honda, has changed somewhat. It seems that now that Hyundai has sold more cars, their prices have risen to almost the same as Toyota and Honda.
And I agree about "American" cars, GM, Ford, and Chrysler make garbage anymore. Plus, more and more American cars are being made out of the country anyways....GM makes many of its models in Mexico and now China, while the Japanese companies make most of the cars they sell here in America. My Honda Accord was made in Ohio. Even Hyundai has started building some of its cars in America, in Alabama I believe. Although my Elantra was made in Korea.

Well neither I or any of my friends or relatives work for a car dealership, so this recommendation is non-prejudiced, but we have owned several Subarus and have a good number of friends and coworkers who do, and every one of us has been happy with our subbies. I can't speak highly enough of Minooka Subaru's service dept; we really haven't had any issues or problems but one, and they've gone above and beyond the call of duty. The one problem we had was something that wouldn't normally be covered under warranty ( a wear issue) but they covered it for us because they thought it wore prematurely
Minooka only sell subbies so if you're in the market for something else, well, they can't help you, but if you're looking for a subbie I highly recommend them.

Default Rosado Sucks!!

I recently bought my first new car from Scranton Ford and i would NEVER EVER EVER go there or sugguest that anyone does. My Credit company does business stricly with scranton ford so we had no choice to go there. we picked out a nice 2007 Focus. They decided that car payment was too much for my fiance and I and they asked if we would be interested in another car. We were hesitant but said ok. They never showed us the car, put all the information through, and ran our names through ever credit place in town even though we had a pre approved loan. Well we ended up with a 2003 focus. It was nice we liked it. Well we started having problems with it the first week we took it off the lot. we took it back and asked them to fix a few of the problems i could see. They actually through a fit about fixing it and ended up just rigging it so it worked. It wasnt safe and it wasnt very attractive. 3 months down the road a tow truck came and repo'ed our car because our credit company that we got our loan through doesnt finance R titled vehicles and they took bakc the loan. we were never told it was an R title and they new everything about the loan we had and still swiched us to an R title. We were devistated we were left without a car and without the 2000 we put into it. When i called to see what had happened because we had no clue we were at work the manager of Scranton Ford said he needed to see us right away. anyway to make a long story short he told me that if i have no problem getting a loan why dont i go get another one somewhere else....as if I had done something wrong. And he never gave me my money back!! So we were left without a car and without the money we had saved toward a car.
