Hawley Photo Tour
Good evening, everyone! I had to take a drive up to the Dorflinger Glass Museum in White Mills, Wayne County today to purchase a special gift for my ex-boyfriend's rapidly-approaching birthday, so I decided to extend my stay a little while by venturing five miles into nearby Hawley to do a quick photo tour.
Hawley is a small yet quaint community that serves as a "gateway" of sorts to very popular Lake Wallenpaupack. The population is slightly over 1,000 full-time residents, but that swells to several thousand more seasonal residents during the summer in the neighboring townships. Criminal activity is quite literally unheard of in Hawley, save for perhaps jaywalking offenses.
The town straddles the Wayne/Pike County border and is situated along scenic U.S. Route 6, about fifteen minutes east of Honesdale, the thriving county seat. Hawley has just about any convenience you could need to get by on a day-to-day basis, and Indian Orchard, which is about ten minutes west of town via Route 6, is home to a Home Depot, Wal-Mart, KMart, Radio Shack, Payless Shoes, Pizza Hut Italian Bistro, and various other stores and restaurants.
Please enjoy my photos, and feel free to scope out Hawley for yourself the next time you're in Wayne County.

Welcome to Hawley!

Paul, it was good to finally meet you today at council. I was surprised to see you speak today, but it was a good thing. Since I have lived in this area for over 20 years, I'm very familiar with Hawley and Honsedale from my days living in Wayne County. Both are small towns and very nice to visit. Like you said, there isn't much crime in Hawley, considering there are a lot of transplanted New Yorkers and New Jerseyians. Unlike the problems that are going on in the Mt. Pocono area that has made that region like a mini New York. Well take care Paul, talk to you soon.

Welcome to Hawley, PA

As you enter town from the west via Route 6, the first building that greets you on Main Street is the very popular "Settler's Inn." I've heard nothing but awesome reviews about the food here, but I had to ensure I was back in Scranton by 1 PM for the city council meeting, so I didn't have time to verify that with a nice lunch.

Next-door to the Settler's Inn along Main Street is the town's IGA Supermarket.

Just down the street is Hawley's Municipal Building and the office of the local magistrate.

Situated across the street from the three aforementioned buildings along Main Street is Bingham Park, which features a gazebo, playground, baseball field, and other recreational amenities. There were throngs of children playing under close supervision of their parents, so I decided against taking any more photos of the park for fear of being viewed in an ominous fashion.

The Lackawaxen River as it flows under Main Street en route to Lake Wallenpaupack.

Main Street, Downtown Hawley. A few key points of interest here include the Elzbieta Polish Deli, Torte Knox Culinary Institute, Falls Port Inn, and the Ritz Theater along nearby Keystone Street.

A pair of homes along Penn Avenue, which is parallel to Main Street.

A home along Keystone Street, just down from the Ritz Theater.

The Hawley Village Apartments, located along Wayne Avenue.

Some scenes from along Church Street. Some notable points of interest here include Church Street Hardware, Cafe Boun Giorno, and Penny Lane Candies & Candles.

Shown here is Cora's Bistro at the intersection of Church Street and Welwood Avenue. There was a sign on the building that said the establishment was voted as having the best bartender and best chef, but I didn't have time to treat my taste buds.
A rundown home being restored along Welwood Avenue.

A historic home at the intersection of Welwood & Academy.

A historic home at the intersection of Welwood & Paupack.

An awesome turret highlights this Paupack Street Victorian classic.

A home that needs a fresh coat of paint along Falls Avenue.

A more well-kept home next-door.

Old Mill Country Inn

Two odd sights to find in a pro-Bush town.

Oops! I ran out of town to capture in photography! Hawley is miniscule in size, but it packs quite a charming punch.
I hope you enjoyed my brief tour!

As you go further out of town (toward the intersection of Route 6 and 590) there is also another supermarket, CVS, Arby's, the Castle (antique store), several office buildings and shops, Wallenpaupack High, Middle and Intermediate Schools, the PPL Dam, Grehams's Landing (ice cream, pizza, and a few small shops), and Wilsonville Recreation and Camping area and the public beach.

I am so glad you took these photos- now (lol) keep going, up 590 and get the small towns, and the Lackawaxen river town's if you go up 590 from cora's and take 590 east you will go to bohemia- cuckoos nest restaurant, lackawaxen with the Zane grey Museum and the Roebling bridge, then you head back east and you will find Rowland which is a small town. Rowland has a cute little cafe, an old fashioned fishing store, a really pretty church (on church rd) and if you follow it east you will see eagles, lots of eagles, it is the area that has help bring Eagles back. Then you get to Hawley again! I know I am being a pain, but I am so proud of my old hometown area, and I want others to see it. Thanks so much Wilkesbarre scranton for all the beautiful photos-- I take nature photo's so I can't really help people decide where to go-
