2.) Are there opportunties for alot of outdoor activities around Scranton? I like hiking, skiing, mountain biking

3.) Do people in scranton often make weekend trips to other big cities (philly, Nyc, DC...)

4.) Is there a passenger train that transports people to other big Northeast cities?

5.) Is there a covered swimming pool in scranton for swimming during the winter?

6.) How is the night life and is it easy to meet people around my age?

7.) Any big differences i should be aware of between the north east vs so cal (mentality, people, customs)

8.) Any overally advice you recommend before i make the move in late august?
This little old lady, (no, I'm not from Dupont), suggests that you bring your good attitude with you and you'll have friends in no time.

I migrated to NEPA back in the '60s. Scranton was our first stop, after living in several big cities. Life was less frenetic, and it took some getting used to, but we persevered and I'm still here, some forty years later, having voted down the opportunity to relocate to the Big City.

Whatever your ethnicity, religion or sexual orientation, there will be people here who share those traits. If your college degree is part of who you are, and not all that you are, you'll do fine here. Just remember that you won't always be the smartest person in the room.

You're going to l-o-v-e the traffic. Or lack of it. You may not feel the same way about some of the drivers, though.

Oh, and try to be open-minded about the pizza. Okay?

For less than $1000 a month around here, you can rent a nice house with a yard.

You'll find many styles of pizza here. Some people are not interested in exploring the options and others are only too happy to try them all. (There's even a place in Hazleton that calls it "pitza".)

There are all the chains. The box usually tastes better than the pie.
There is the Old Forge style which is unique and some people wouldn't eat any other kind.
There is the traditional "New York Style" which only true New Yorkers love.
Personally, I like the pizza I used to eat when I was growing up in the Bristol/Trenton area, known as "tomato pie".

OMT: many pizza's are cut in squares and you order by the "cut". Some of the traditional places do sell round pies and you can order a "slice".

Reserve judgement. You're sure to find something you like.
