I gotta say, I can't wait to have REAL pizza when we're up by y'all!!! The pizza here in Florida is horrible!! (they say it's the water they use in the dough... )
Some friends of ours just opened a pizza place not far from us & they're C-L-O-S-E, but still not northern pizza...

LOL!! and Grossss!! I love NY pizza (it's all about the dough, and yes, it is the water!) but I blot mine with paper towels to get some of the grease off. The Old Forge pizza was really good, but such a totally different taste from NY, they can't even be compared.

I totally agree. That's real pizza to me. That grease is olive oil and I love mozzarella cheese on my "pie".

Um, that grease is not olive oil....i'm afraid it's grease from the mozzarella cheese! If it was olive oil, it would be the "good for your heart" grease...not the "clog your arteries" grease, which pizza grease is, unfortunately

You're right, my bad. It's still very tasty. I love the dough, you're right, that's what makes NY style pizza great.

We're not pizza snobs. We're facing reality!!!!! Besides that's olive oil NOT grease on the pizza!!!!!!

Time to try another "original" place when I visit NYC in a week-and-a-half. We loved Jekyll & Hyde, but it was uber-$$$.

Jekyll & Hyde is too much of a tourist trap type of restaurant.

The "real" NY pizza, they do put olive oil on top & between that & the oil leaked from the mozzarella, it makes that "free beverage"!!
I figure, if I have to give up all that good stuff to keep my heart & valves & whatever else "healthy", then I'd rather die sooner but happier!!
