The soon-to-be-defunct Borders in Dickson City would make a great high school football museum, heyna or no?

The closing of Borders in Dickson City is not an indictment of the people in the area. Nor is it a statement on technology. It is simply an example of how a business failed because they were not as forward thinking as their competitors.

I agree and I assume that if a need exists, another company will step in to fill it.

Maybe a nice shiney new Apple store at the empty Borders location. Hmm

Borders is NOT the only bookstore in Lackawanna County! There's Anthology in Scranton, for one.

Nope...Anthology closed its doors earlier this year. And even if it was still around, it was not a full-service book store, I was in there once and could not find what I was looking for, and it was a pretty common title.

I was at the outlets in Grove City in June and they had a book wholesaler. All books, mostly hardcovers, were $5.00 or less. Think Ollie's book section, but a whole store. I think something like that could thrive at steamtown.

The community should engage the University of Scranton to have them work towards getting a Barnes and Nobles on or near campus. Currently I believe they use Follettes, so a switch to B&N should be easy

Borders was packed today, since the liquidation sale has started. There maybe hope that someone will buy the store in DC. Books-A-Million, based in Birmingham, Ala., is offering to buy the leases and assets of 30 Borders stores (including the one in DC) and keep them open. The two chains are still in talks.

I can't believe that a city the size of Scranton may not have a bookstore. That's really depressing. Are there there any used book stores, anything?

I lived in NEPA my whole life until June. Now living in Alabama. I always liked Borders in DC. Books-a-million not so hot. Better than nothing, though. Best wishes in getting something in there.

Put a fork in it, its done.
I think I owe you an apology. We were at Steamtown today and it's bad. The last we were there was around Easter and things have gotten significantly worse.
The mall has at least half of the upper floor vacant, and probably 3/4 of the food court is empty, the bright spot is an Auntie Anne just opened up.
The place didn't look rundown or in need of repair, and I didn't see the undesirables that you did. I did see people shopping, and many middle class families sitting in the food court on laptops (surprisingly saw several Mac laptops) while kids ate or played in the jungle gym.
