Default resetting debt statute of limitations

I received a phone call from an attorney, threatening to sue me for a debt over 10 years ago. Panicked and pressured - I gave up my credit card number. I have now found out, in PA statute of limitation on debt is only 4 years. Someone told me to dispute the charge on my credit card bill. Even if the charge is reversed, did I reset the SOL?

Did you pay off the original debt? Or did someone finally catch up with you and "panicked and pressured" you decided that maybe you should pay off your debt and now you have decided that you would rather not and maybe there is an easier way out. My advice to you is that if you have debt from 10 years ago that you didn't take care of, you should not even have a credit card. Maybe you should hire a lawyer or seek credit counseling services.

I always thought that disputing a credit charge was for incorrect charges and when you have a unresolved problem with a merchant.

Louie, I've found CreditBoards.com - Credit Help, Credit Repair Tips, News, Forums to be a very helpful place, although there is lots and lots of reading to do there

great post louie. sorry to hear about your situation, that's just awful. i doubt that you're going to get your money back on your credit card, unless perhaps you fight it in court, but that could take a long time i'm sure.

You made a fatal mistake.
By making a payment you started the collection process all over again, if you would have ignored it you were beyond the point of legal action against you.
Now the creditor can come after you again.
As much as I dislike Suzy Orman her show is veryinformative and she has a call in number.
I suggest you check her out, she is on tv on the weekends

I always wondered what the statute of limitations was in PA on old debt. I had creditors in the past keep contacting me. I knew it had to end at some point, I just didn't know when. I know if I was Louie5, I wouldn't of paid a debt from 10 years ago with my credit card. I didn't think lawyers could call you personally to take care of a debt anyway. I thought it had to all go through collection agencies over a course of a few years. I guess we all live and learn.
