Default NEPA Nursing Home need Help please!

Hello,
My 45 yr old sister is in a nursing home on LI with COPD and lives on a respirator.
It is a very good facility but she is very lonely.
The closest family is in the Scranton area (I'm in Ohio)
Does anyone know of a nursing home that would accept this kind of patient?
(permanent, acute, and Medicare)

I am desperate to find her something closer to relatives who could visit.
Thank you for any help.

There's a nice nursing home here in Pittston, PA, which is a suburb of Scranton, known as "Wesley Village," that is home to quite a number of people and is operated by United Methodist Homes. When I was still in high school we used to visit this nursing home to sing Christmas carols in different languages and to visit with and comfort the residents, and they seemed to be quite happy living there. However, most of those living there were in the over-65 category, so your sister, who is only 45, might still feel lonely here not having many people in her own peer group to befriend. The complex is very large, with a large high-rise, as well as a newer subdivision of semi-independent living residences for those who wish to live in their own home yet still want to be near the center if they need care. The complex is about a 15-minute drive to Scranton or a 10-minute drive to Wilkes-Barre.

Here's two links to Wesley Village information:

I'll recommend other sites as well as I think of them.

Thank you SWB.
It is actually closer to the relatives. I will check the websites as she needs special care. She is bedridden and can not speak so socializing is especially hard and increases her isolation.
I wish I could be closer but it is impossible right now.

Medicare has a tool that allows you to search for NFs by area.
Medicare.gov - Nursing Home Compare - Geography Questions

So does the state of Pennsylvania:
Health: Nursing Home Facility Locator

Be sure that someone visits any facility your sister is considering. You would want a facility that has excellent nursing care due to her situation. A facility that has a fair amount of younger patients and/or a good number of volunteers coming in to sit with patients would be wonderful.

Are you sure Medicare is the primary payor? Medicare generally does not pay for long term care. If your sister is on Medicaid, you will need to find out if the facility has a Medicaid bed available (many of the better facilities will not). If she has private insurance, you will need to ensure the facility accepts that insurance. If she is paying cash, she will pretty much be able to go where ever she likes.

Best of luck in making this important decision.
