Question POLL: NEPA Members Shindig---Yea or Nay?

Good evening everyone! I recently received a direct message from another member inquiring about the local picnic/shindig event that I had hoped to organize for this summer, and I just wanted to gauge the interest of everyone on here to see if there was still sufficient interest in a picnic of sorts to move forward with the plans. I had originally been aiming for an August affair, but recent family issues with my grandmother's ailing health over the past few months made planning the event difficult. As such, I want to start planning ahead now to shoot for Springtime of 2008. You'll soon see several more polls regarding "logistics" of the event---location, date, dining, etc., so that I can start to co-ordinate this effort in a manner that would please as many people as possible. I hope to reserve a pavillion at a local park, so the sooner we can decide on the best date and location, the better our odds will be of securing the venue. Another goal of mine is to get us some sort of media exposure as well---I'm hoping the Scranton Times-Tribune (or whatever newspaper happens to be in the community we choose) will show up to take a group picture and to do a brief story on how new friendships are being forged via a simple internet message board.

I'm wholeheartedly excited about making this event a reality---the only request I have is that we please set aside our political differences for the event (I don't want to see CHS89 and WeLuvPA getting into a boxing match at Nay Aug Park, for example!) LOL! If possible, please post a reply to this thread indicating whether or not you'd be interested in attending an event this upcoming spring and how many members would be in your party (for easier planning for food).

Thanks,
Paul

More than likely. The cold weather will be here in late-October, so that only gives us about six weeks from right now to plan this thing for this Fall. The odds of getting lucky and finding an open pavilion, caterer, etc. on such short notice might make the event seem "rushed," so I'm hoping starting now with the legwork months in advance will make the event better for all involved! This will also give me time to contact the Scranton Times-Tribune about the possibility of getting ourselves some recognition.

I'm in for sure, at least 3 people, but we do not have to have a picnic, we could always do a night of bowling!!!!!! Its a great way to break up the night and is fun......Regardless we could do anything, it does not need to be outside. Caterer? Paul I threw a block party for close to 200 people as a covered dish event with the neighborhood assoc picking up the tent, beer, and some food but for the most part it was all a covered dish event. Give me a call and I'll help you organize it. Covered dish=variety of food...

Dan, bowling would be a great idea. Then we don't have to wait until next spring. Although, then we could also do the outdoor event. I will call you later and we'll kick around more ideas. This could be really fun.

Sounds like a great idea. I don't live in the area, but my folks do, so I'll keep an eye on this thread and if I happen to be around when it's happening I'd love to attend.
