You're quite welcome. I'll send you a direct message with my cell phone number just in case you should happen to get disoriented while you're in the area and need to call for directions. I'd be more than happy to show you folks around a bit as well, but I'll be on the busier side this weekend (I'm nurturing a brand new romance).

I wouldn't steer ya wrong... it's a lot more pleasant; it's in a mall-manic district (ugh for my tastes but convenient by and large) and you've got a downhome Cracker Barrel within a few hundred feet. Again, it's just off the Highland Park Blvd exit of I-81.........
You might consider taking your son to Knoebels Amusement resort--large free admission park with over 50 rides, many old fashioned and two top ranked wooden coasters. It'd be a 45 minute-one hour drive south on 81 then west on 80 to Bloomsburg/Catawissa (Buckhorn), then 9 miles on s.r. 487 toward Elysburg.....just an afterthought.

I don't know where you are coming from, but I think you will like Kingston. We are renting a beautiful 4 bedroom 2 bath house on a quiet tree lined street for 750 a month.

Thanks for the info. Let me know how to get there from the Hilton Garden Inn, and Saturday I'll go by.
And I like to thank WasPA for letting me know about the Hilton Garden Inn. 2 thumbs up.
And to ScrantonWilkesBarre, GOOD LUCK nurturing your brand new romance.

Well, you have two options really to get to Kingston, so I'll give you both. Option #1 will take you through Downtown Wilkes-Barre (if you wanted to get a "feel" for the city on your way to Kingston), and Option #2 will bypass Wilkes-Barre entirely using highways.
Option #1: Take a right out of your parking lot onto Highland Park Blvd. Follow this road about 1/4 mile around the bend to the right (past Wegman's Foods) and to the bottom of the hill to the light at W-B Twp. Blvd. At this light go straight ahead onto Coal Street (road narrows). Follow Coal Street past the projects and "The Heights" section of Wilkes-Barre to the end. At the light, make a left onto Wilkes-Barre Blvd. Make your first right (light) onto Market Street. Follow this street a few blocks until you hit Public Square, which is a one-way in a counter-clockwise direction. Make a right onto the square and then your second right back onto Market Street (basically you want to shoot straight across the square). You should soon see the Market Street Bridge dead ahead, which you'll want to cross into Kingston. Market Street is one of the town's main drags, and it will eventually intersect with Wyoming Avenue (Route 11), which is the life-blood of that side of the river.
Option #2: Take a left out of your parking lot and an immediate right towards I-81. Follow I-81 North just two miles to Exit #170B (Wilkes-Barre). This will put you onto the North Cross-Valley Freeway. Follow this to Exit #4 (Kingston/Forty Fort). Make a left at the end of the offramp and you'll be dumped onto Rutter Avenue in Kingston. This street is a popular "bypass" to get around the traffic congestion on Wyoming Avenue (Route 11).
Option #1 sounds much more difficult, but if you want to see some different parts of Wilkes-Barre, then that would be the way to go. Option #2 takes you two miles out of the way, but it might be quicker in the long run because you bypass all of the traffic lights.
Good luck!

P.S. Thanks for the well-wishes on the new romance---it's been three years in the making, but my first date today had me pinned against my car seat for a half-hour long kiss, so I must have done something right! LOL!

This can't be accurate. I'm leaving Middletown, NY-an area known for drugs, guns and whackjobs- for Hawley...and they rate the same!
Get out of here. No way. This linked site must be geared towards a particular area or something, casting everything else in a poor light.

Sorry if you misunderstood me, but we are renting it ourselves, not that we have one for rent. Now, if you want to buy a lovely 3 bedroom ranch home about 10 miles north of allentown, that I can help you with!
If you are up to a 50 minute drive from Wilkes-Barre take him to Dorney Park, very nice size amusement and water park.

I would however suggest if you don't mind the drive, drive 90 minutes and go to Hershey Park. Awesome, clean, amusement park with great coasters and a free factory(simulated factory) tour with a free chocolate bar.

I've been to Dorney three times in five years, and went to Hershey last a month ago. Neither can be fully experienced in a single day. The water park areas in both are nearly identical. (Hershey just added this huge spectacle of a thing for kids to walk through while getting soaked, but Dorney's had it for some time.)
If it's just rides, you go to Dorney. It's closer. If you want more than just rides, you go to Hershey. They have a smallish zoo, plus the museum and the other stuff you already read about.
For Hershey, there's deal to be had for admissions. Look around online, you'll see what I mean.

If the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees (Yankees AAA farm team) are playing at home when you're here that'd be fun for your son--and his folks. Stadium is off I-81 at the northbound Davis St. exit between W-B & Scranton...mebbe 20 minutes from your hotel. Hotel staff will help with info.
Knoebel's is probably on your way to/from your home state, perhaps 15+ minutes s/sw from the 'Bloomsburg/Buckhorn' exit of I-80 via routes 42 to Catawissa and 487 to Elysburg. While it's in the 'boonies', it is a major amusement park, very family oriented and hasn't the need for $ and time commitment since you pay by the ride and there's no admission fee.....you can drop by for some thrills and some food from the various foodies and have a swell time in an hour or two.....Hershey Park would be a great trip after you move here.......the Knoebels are building a fascinating new ride out of their own lumber that's a combination of roller coaster and bobsled..it's on their website....one of the wooden coasters, the Phoenix, was moved there from San Antonio...spared from the wrecker's ball...has tons of exhilarating 'air' time and is frequently ranked among the top 10 wooden coasters by coaster enthusiasts. There's also one of the best 'dark rides' anywhere...the Haunted Mansion.....great, spooky fun!
Over and out.......

Agreed. The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees are playing this weekend at PNC Field in Moosic. The schedule lists a game tonight at 7 PM against Richmond, VA. Ticket prices are $9 in the lower sections and $7 in the upper sections (there's also a charge for parking if I'm not mistaken, but I haven't been to PNC Field since the Yankees came to town). This is game 1 of the playoffs, and there are also games (tentatively) scheduled for Saturday at 1:30 PM and Sunday at 1:30 PM.
Directions from Hiton Garden Inn: Take I-81 North to the Montage Mountain Road exit. Make a right at the end of the offramp, and the stadium will be dead-ahead on your left-hand side about 1/4 mile or so down Montage Mountain Road. The trip will be about 15-18 minutes or so.
Knoebel's is also an awesome time! Parking and admission are both free, and other prices are very reasonable, so it might serve as an inexpensive way to have some great family fun on your way back to Indiana on Sunday.
