East Stroudsburg's area was classified as "urban" here's a link to the article East Stroudsburg's 'urban' classification could mean more transportation funds | PoconoRecord.com
anyone know what this could mean for the area? the article states more funds for transportation but no details, we can discuss here.

It could mean that the Lackawanna line gets completed faster or it could mean that the streets and roads are widened....

yeah as far as Lackawanna they trying to build 7 mile section to Andover for the last decade or so, so far they cleared parts of the section and put some tracks, by the time they're ready to complete 7 mile run they will have to clear it again. Do not see Lackawanna to be completed in my life time for sure.

It opens up next year to Andover and then to PA by 2016....the hard sections are all on the Jersey side. The Easy sections are on the PA side.

Construction just started last year , it fell on the back burner in NJT along with the Lehigh System. Politicians and $$$ made Construction on the 7 mile starter possible. The First 7 miles are considered the hardest part of this project due to the Neglect and rot , most of that has been cleared and tracks laided. They still need to build a yard which will although for easy expansion to at least East Stroudsburg which is what Phase 2 calls for. Phase 3 goes up to Scranton.... that's still unknown. So Phase 1 & 2 will be completed by 2020 that's for sure , I can't say what Phase 3 and Phase 4 to Binghamton will happen. The Environmentalists pushed NJT to put it on the back burner , recently they compromised which is why it started moving again.

First meeting railroad I attended was in 1993 at Pocono Mtn HS (now PM East).

Not trying to be negative but it's been 19 years or more since politicians and real estate agents have been talking about the train. I'll have my free solar powered jet pack from Obama before a train carries paying passengers from the Poconos to NJ/NY.

hey Nexis I really hope you're right! just curious when did you get all the info from what I know around Stanhope-Sparta Road is flood-prone area that is officially designated as wetlands. This has prevented NJT from obtaining permits up to this point in time, therefore the lack of track work on this short segment. Also there's nothing indicating any future work in Andover as far as station, I was there couple of weeks ago and there's nothing there no markings no permits, another thing Roseville tunell this also needs extensive work and nothing is being done in this section what I understand that would be a 1 phase right? 2nd stage to East Stroudsburg they would have to complete renovation of Paulins Kill Viaduct to complete this in 8 years? I think it's not possible but hey! let's hope!
