Catawissa! Grew up there, attended SCA, graduated from Bloom U. Moved out of the area. If the ecomomy would allow my husband and me to establish a career back home, I would move in a heartbeat!

I absolutely agree about the wholesomeness of the area. That I miss the most (other than my family).

I Southern Columbia really a good school? You have to be cautious, because some schools that have great football teams get mistakenly branded as a "great school" just because of its athletic achievements, and could be lacking academically. That's the case with Valley View, which always gets labeled as a great school is advertised as a selling point in local real estate ads, when the truth is that VV is a poor school academically, mediocre at best, but because of its past football achievements, gets labeled a good school. Please, don't move to a district because it gets a good rep from football....better to have great academics and a lousy football team than the other way around.
Not saying that this is the case with Southern Columbia, but keep it in mind. Do more research on their test scores.

Southern Columbia is more than just football. They do truly have a great academic program. As I said before, we have friends who moved there from Selinsgrove (also an excellent acadmic school district) and their kids are thriving in Southern Columbia.

I've been researching places to move to in 2 years (after my daughter goes to College). I'm tired of NYC and yearn to live in a quiet rural area surrounded by nature and friendly people. This area of PA sounds fabulous. Does anyone have a website link to find out more information? Real Estate? Taxes? Relocation info? etc. etc.
Thanks sooo much.

Try googling the Columbia/Montour Chamber of Commerce to get started on info for the Catawissa area.
