Default Catawissa/Southern Columbia SD

My husband is looking into a job in Berwick, PA and we've begun to scope out the area. We like Bloomsburg and found a perfect home just a short distance away with a Catawissa address (just over the river on Route 487) and in Southern Columbia SD. I'm looking for feedback on that area and school district. I've read that there is not much in Catawissa, but I'd be okay with that since we would be so close to Bloomsburg. I suppose I'm mostly concerned about the Southern Columbia School District. We have family in Schuylkill County and are looking for an easy drive to that area as well, if anyone has any other areas to suggest that would have a good school district. Thanks!

Southern Columbia School District is WONDERFUL! Some friends of ours, a pastor and his family, just moved there a couple years ago and their kids (11th grade, 9th grade and 5th grade) are thriving and doing VERY well. The oldest boy plays on their world-class football team and after just seeing the family recently I can attest to the fact that you can't go wrong with putting your kids in this school.

So, in my opinion, you can move with a happy and carefree heart!

I've likewise heard great things about Southern Columbia. Catawissa itself is actually a cute little community---I was always a fan of the historic opera house building in the middle of town. Also don't forget that Knoebel's Amusement Park is only about 10 minutes away; we were there yesterday and had an awesome time!

Thanks for the replies! I'm glad to know that SC is a good district since the house we found is everything we want. Hopefully the job offer comes through and the house is still available!

scrantonwilkesbarre Is Catawissa included in any of your photo tours? I really enjoy them and it would be a great way to see that town.

Thanks very much for the compliments, but I have yet to include Catawissa in a photo tour (although I did cover nearby Bloomsburg). I'm about halfway finished with my upcoming Pittston Photo Tour, and I will head out (possibly tomorrow) to finish the southern half of town, after which point I'll be posting "Tomato Town" onto the forum as well. Catawissa is definitely on my "to-do" list, along with Berwick, Benton, Danville, Northumberland, Mifflinburg, Middleburg, and Sunbury in the Central Susquehanna Valley. Dunmore will likely be done after Pittston though, perhaps followed by Nanticoke.

Ack! I thought that I'd cleaned up an error before it became public. I had read about the wind farm proposal a couple days back. Somewhere in the recesses of my (apparently diminisihing) brain, I was thinking "Catawissa Mountain". Actually, the wind farm proposal is for Nescopeck Mountain (Butler Township---several miles to the east)) and would not affect Catawissa in the least. So the email to your 'ratted' me out, eh? lol...but you surely see the similarity..."Catawissa"--- "Nescopeck", yes??? lol

Sorry, I am.... and hopeful that you suffered no concerns. I will say that the windfarm per se has made a substantial entry into PA geography, especially for out-of-state companies generating power for....out of state utilities.....so they can become part of virtually any mountainscape except where any municipality might prohibit them or restrain their size, scope and placement....

I'm sorry for "outing" you! But glad that it's Nescopeck and not Catawissa. Thanks!

^^^lol...np.....I'm surprised about the odd 'tell-tale' email, in view of the fact that I edited my own post, quickly correcting my error......... not to belabor the minor point, but shouldn't I get a copy/notification?
